Chapter 48 When Past Meets Present
- Little feet pattered along the ground in a flurry of activity, running through the forest with excitement, and in his hands was a little white bunny. It was his first hunt and he could not wait to show it first to his father and then his mother. Dressed in only a black short, his chest was covered in mud from his journey into the woods, his hair sticking up in all directions from all the running and tumbling he had done in the bushes. Little ears peeked out of his dirty blonde locks and his brown eyes were alight with excitement as he ran through the trees and over the roots that hung from them in the forest floor like vines of a vineyard. He had been in this part of the forest almost every day for weeks now, just exploring and playing and getting a bit lost.
- But he did not have the time to get lost today. Today, he was going to be on top of the world when he showed the bunny off to his father, and the people at school tomorrow. He had a smile stretched on his face as he continued onwards, his little legs pumped more and more quickly toward his goal until he came upon the familiar large clearing. Then he broke out into a sprint, skidding to a stop and staring with big round eyes at the scene before him, breathless from all the running.
- In front of him stood two giant men standing tall, dressed in heavy robes and armed with long spears and swords. They were speaking to someone and the little boy stood there, waiting for them to leave. His heart beat fast with excitement and anticipation as he waited, bouncing impatiently. When they finally stepped away, looking over their shoulders and flashing him a warm smile, the little boy took one last look at them, waving goodbye and taking off once again toward the last man left standing there.
