Chapter 1 Betrayal

  • Carol Willick never imagined that she would witness such a scene herself.
  • Her fiancé had betrayed her!
  • In the dimly lit room, emotions filled the air. Two intertwined figures engaged in passionate and captivating movements, accompanied by the woman's delicate gasps.
  • "Ugh... David, slow down! You're amazing..."
  • One of them was her best friend, Selly, and the other was her boyfriend of three years, David Lawford. Unbelievably, they had gotten into bed behind her back!
  • As Carol watched the two lost in the moment, a bitter smile formed on her face. She had planned to bring her documents to Nexoria and register for marriage with David. However, he had surprised her with this revelation.
  • With a forceful push, Carol swung the door open, the loud noise abruptly awakening the two intoxicated individuals.
  • "David, Selly! Can you truly justify your actions to me?"
  • David released Selly, grabbed a thin blanket to cover himself, and frowned at Carol. "Why are you here?"
  • Seeing his expression, Carol smiled bitterly, her eyes filled with bitterness.
  • He showed no guilt or intention of explaining himself to me!
  • "Carol, let's break up," David said nonchalantly, as if Carol were insignificant.
  • Selly put on David's shirt, walked over, and linked arms with him, adopting a triumphant posture. "Carol, we're about to get engaged. You must come to the party!"
  • Carol's eyes turned bloodshot with anger.
  • She angrily questioned David, "A few days ago, you said you wanted to marry me. Were those words just empty promises?"
  • "It was just to get you into bed. Did you really think I would marry you? Do you think the Lawfords would accept you? Don't act like you're on the verge of death. Here's five-hundred thousand dollars as a breakup fee. Don't bother me again in the future."
  • David looked thoroughly impatient. He picked up a nearby check, signed it, wrote down the amount, and heartlessly threw it in Carol's face. "Take the check and leave. This money should be enough for you."
  • Tears welled up in Carol's eyes as she laughed.
  • In David's eyes, she was merely a poor woman, easily dismissed with a check, as if she were a beggar. It dawned on her that she meant nothing to him!
  • Anger, unwillingness, and resentment churned in her chest, causing a painful sensation.
  • "I've long been fed up with you. You're unsatisfying in bed, your family background is poor, and you burden me with your sick mother. Do you think a woman like you can marry into a wealthy family?"
  • Carol tore the check to shreds, stomped on it fiercely, and turned away without looking back, leaving.
  • In the night, within a secluded corner of a bar in Nexoria, Carol and Bianca Lawford drowned their sorrows in alcohol.
  • Two marriage certificates were thrown in front of Carol.
  • Bianca excitedly said, "Carol, I've taken care of this for you. I even forged the marriage certificates perfectly. We'll surely be able to deceive that scumbag."
  • "Is the person you found reliable? Will he expose us?"
  • "How could that happen? Do I look like someone who would deceive my best friend? This person is my family's driver, stable and trustworthy. David said no one wants you. Now, let's show him by getting married in a flash!" Bianca assured, patting her chest.
  • Upon learning about the despicable actions of the scumbag and the vile woman shamelessly inviting Carol to their engagement banquet, Bianca came up with a brilliant plan—hiring someone to impersonate Carol's flash-married husband!
  • Most importantly, the impersonator would portray Bianca's billionaire brother!
  • This plan aimed to have her attend David's engagement banquet as his aunt and crush that couple with her presence.
  • Although Bianca was one generation older than David, their age difference wasn't significant.
  • The relationships within the Lawford family were intricate and complicated. David was Bianca's paternal nephew, and due to past grievances, the relationship between the two branches of the family could have been more harmonious. It was said that David had never even met Jayden Lawford.
  • Moreover, Bianca mentioned that her brother was on a business trip abroad and wouldn't return soon, so there was no need to worry about exposure. She could confidently proceed with the plan.
  • Did they expect me to attend the engagement banquet?
  • Yes, I would go!
  • And they would experience the same pain they had caused me!
  • As the night grew darker, several empty wine bottles were arranged in front of Bianca and Carol. Their faces were flushed, and they were drunk to the point of unconsciousness.
  • Above them, on the massive television screen, a real-time entertainment news report was airing.
  • "Jayden Lawford, the heir of Lawford Group, flight itinerary leaked, surrounded by many reporters at the airport..."
  • "Jayden served as the president of the Nexoria branch of Lawford Group last year, and he gained unmatched popularity. Rumors suggest that he has been traveling between cities recently, hinting at the possibility of him taking over the century-old family business of Lawford Group."
  • "He has maintained a low profile and remains mysterious. Until now, not a single photograph of him has been leaked. Will the reporters manage to capture his image this time..."
  • In a VIP lounge at Nexoria airport.
  • A tall and handsome figure sat in a private booth. The man had well-defined facial features, a high and straight nose, and exuded an elegant and refined air. His whole demeanor radiated a cold and noble aura.
  • His assistant, Hugo Fagan, approached and whispered, "Mr. Lawford, the reporters outside have been taken care of. You can leave now. Also, there's another matter..."
  • Jayden raised his gaze, fixing it on Hugo.
  • Hugo cleared his throat. "I just received some news. Ms. Bianca went ahead and secretly arranged a marriage for you. So, currently, you are... married."
