• That word came out like a whisper in the wind. Evie never knew where her father was or what had made him leave. I knew his name, but I had no idea what his face looked like. Evangeline believed the story that Leah maintained, about him dropping them off in that field alone and being driven around the world. Seeing those envelopes, Evie thought that maybe that wasn’t true.
