Chapter 19 Do I Know You?

• I fumbled with the door knob and tried to open it and run out, but the damn door wouldn't bulge. One of the men standing guard walked towards me, holding a gun. He pointed the nozzle at my head upon reaching me.
• “Who are you?” He growled menacingly. My pupils dilated in fear, and when I saw all eyes trained on me, especially that of the man who sat at the head of the table and had his intense gaze on me for the entire time and never moved it elsewhere, a bold idea came into my mind. I had to appease the most powerful person in this room, and I already had an inkling of who it was. I glanced up at Morgan and pouted, making my face look like a neglected wife with lowered eyes, and said, whining,
• “Babe, you said you wouldn't take long, but I waited for ages, and now that I'm here, you don't even spare me a glance. Is your work more important to you than spending time with me?" The temperature in the room dropped even lower at my words as everyone moved their attention from me towards Morgan for affirmation, with clear disbelief on their faces. Morgan sat there, drumming his fingers on the table and staring at me with a glint in those dark eyes of his that looked like a bottomless void. It was as if he could see all of my deepest secrets.
