Chapter 2 How Did We Come To This?

  • Upon learning of her brother's death, she asked her husband for permission to go to her parents' house.
  • But what he got was a burst of anger from him. At first, she didn't know anything, she just got scared because he didn't like her to go out.
  • Due to his work, many fervently sought moments of weakness to take advantage of him. Or rather, get rid of it.
  • Ximena always stayed on the sidelines but tried to be an unconditional support for him. However, he was always cold and distant.
  • Something that little by little, disappointment after disappointment, was cooling what at first was a heart on fire.
  • And what destroyed him mercilessly was the sad death of his older brother.
  • Lucas had never complained about being rejected by his family. They never visited his parents, but he hadn't stopped her from calling them.
  • Until a certain moment.
  • One way or another, it was impossible for her to call them, whether it was the work that was imposed on her or the constant trips to different places, she was so happy to spend time with him.
  • That he forgot absolutely everything, he believed that, although he did not know how to express himself, he loved her and tried to compensate her in other ways.
  • Whenever they had sex, he was affectionate, delicate and even tender. Her first time with him was so magical and tender, that her love for him broke through any doubts that had remained in her due to her family's constant warnings.
  • Her perfect body, her almost bluish black hair, impenetrable and sharp black eyes.
  • Her expression that always seemed unflinching, now looked hungry and full of desire that made her feel like the best woman in the entire world.
  • For her, there was only him in the world.
  • However, one night while I was bringing him a snack at the office…
  • “Sir, the Ramirez family filed a lawsuit this morning”.
  • They demand a divorce from Mrs. Ximena and formally accused him of Emiliano's murder.
  • CRASH!
  • The tray, with all the plates and glasses, broke at Ximena's feet.
  • Her pale face full of disbelief, terror and pain was the first thing Lucas noticed when he opened the door.
  • When Ximena saw him, she couldn't articulate a word, she only opened her pale and dry lips repeatedly like a fish out of water.
  • Lucas took a step forward and she reflexively took one back. The corridor was enveloped in a sepulchral silence.
  • Ximena a long time later finally spoke in a voice as low as a mosquito's but clearly audible in the silent corridor.
  • She couldn't see Lucas's face clearly because he was backlit.
  • But she could almost feel that cold, indifferent gaze run over her body like she was a piece of trash.
  • She shuddered and covered her face; only then did she realize that her face was completely drenched in tears.
  • She had a terrible lump in her throat that prevented her from speaking, and memories of their travels and moments together flooded her mind.
  • "Y.… you..."
  • The more he tried to process it, his body and consciousness slowly slipped away. Resisting as long as she could, she heard Lucas's voice:
  • “They can't force us to divorce if you don't want it...”
  • His cold voice caused a painful sting in her chest, never, when she needed comfort, she never had it from him…
  • She cried alone, and she came out fresh to show him a smile. Her mother was not there to hug her and pat her back.
  • Nor her brothers threatening to seek revenge for her, even if it was something insignificant.
  • His brother…
  • “My… My brother, that's a lie, right?”
  • When she opened her eyes lying on the bed, Lucas's face was the first thing she observed. And those were her first words to him.
  • For the first time in all that time, she held his gaze waiting for an answer, although she couldn't see it clearly, she knew it wouldn't show a single crack.
  • He was cold, indifferent, and when it came to work, he could order someone to be murdered as if it were going to pick flowers.
  • And even he himself was capable of torturing and murdering someone with peace and quiet as if it were just going for a walk.
  • She trembled the first time and cried for days. Lucas was very upset for weeks. He had to adapt.
  • In the end.
  • There were times when he would leave the room with his hands and face soaked in blood and she herself would clean it with dedication and sweetness with a damp handkerchief.
  • Without realizing it, she stood up and walked over to him, staring at him for any sign of anything.
  • At the end in shock and, as if something in his head had broken. She covered her head and fell to her knees, wide-eyed and gasping.
  • He lost all consciousness, and everything went dark…
  • ***************
  • “Ugh, Hugh… Sir… No… We can't find her”.
  • "Bring thermal vision devices, if she doesn't show up, all of you will die here."
  • The firm and almost devilish gaze of her plus the unbearable aura of her, shook those present. They all gulped and almost wanted to yell at Ximena begging for her to show up.
  • The most annoying of all was Lucas, she was an excellent woman, how the hell had that happened?
  • He bit his lip furiously as he remembered her pleading gaze and gaunt face.
  • There was no longer a trace of the beautiful smile that he once gave her, nor of the warmth and love that overflowed his gaze.
  • Now he only saw fear, despair and pain. If it had been any other woman, he would have dumped her instantly, he wouldn't bother with her and even he himself would have dumped her long before.
  • However, unlike others with looks without a single hint of emotion. Full of moans and fake compliments.
  • She gave him everything without conditions and he noticed it. Due to her upbringing and the amount of time she spent alone, she was completely useless at expressing love.
  • But he always gave it all to him with full hands. He loved seeing her smile, feeling her love and concern from her, touching her, kissing her, he saw her as a fragile and beautiful being who came to ease her endless pain, despair and loneliness.
  • But he did not know at what moment everything fell apart.
