Chapter 7 The Escape

  • That day, Rhea took Lisette to Daytonia and admitted her to a top-tier private hospital known for its high security and luxurious facilities.
  • Four nurses and two doctors surrounded her, performing a series of extensive tests.
  • Lisette lay on the bed, completely passive as they moved her around, her body feeling like a mere object.
  • As night fell, darkness enveloped the world outside.
  • Resting on the hospital bed, Lisette cradled her belly gently and stared out at the dark sky.
  • In just over eight months, the baby would be taken from her.
  • She would never see him again.
  • Is this truly what I want?
  • That night, Lisette was plagued by a nightmarish vision. She dreamt of William standing before her, asking, "Lisette, do you understand the consequences of being unsensible?"
  • In the dream, she was wheeled into the operating room, where a doctor, clad in gloves and holding a scalpel, approached her abdomen.
  • "Don't!"
  • Lisette screamed, jolting upright in bed.
  • The nurse on duty rushed to her side. "Mrs. Preston."
  • Still gripped by the remnants of her nightmare, Lisette pushed the nurse away. "Don't touch me!"
  • She cowered back, her fear evident. "You can't touch my baby!"
  • Noticing her distress, the nurse quickly pressed the call button.
  • Meanwhile, Lisette scrambled out of bed and dashed for the door.
  • She had to escape this nightmarish place!
  • But as she opened the door and glimpsed the scene outside, she paused and took a deep breath.
  • It was just a nightmare. It wasn't real.
  • This was reality.
  • Yet, if she stayed, her nightmare might become a reality.
  • She couldn't remain here.
  • She had to leave with her baby!
  • After examining Lisette and confirming her condition, the doctor left, leaving a nurse to keep an eye on her.
  • Lisette turned to the nurse. "Could you take me for a short walk?"
  • The nurse eyed her with suspicion.
  • "I had a terrible dream and feel very uneasy. I just want to get some fresh air. I won't be gone long."
  • Remembering Lisette's earlier panic, the nurse agreed. "Alright, but make it quick. You need to rest."
  • "Thank you."
  • The nurse soon guided Lisette downstairs. Clutching the edge of her coat, Lisette kept a careful watch on her surroundings.
  • As they walked along a small path leading to a large sycamore tree, Lisette suddenly clutched her stomach.
  • The nurse immediately came to her aid. "Mrs. Preston, what's wrong?"
  • "My stomach hurts so much ... ow ... it's unbearable ... "
  • "What's happening? Uh ... "
  • The nurse panicked, her gaze darting around.
  • Lisette quickly urged, "You need to get the doctor immediately. Hurry!"
  • "Okay, I'll get help. Stay here and don't move."
  • "Yes, it hurts so badly ... the baby ... my baby ... "
  • Doubling over in pain, Lisette watched as the nurse hurried back towards the hospital. Once she was out of sight, Lisette removed her coat, turned her sweater inside out, and secured her long hair in a bun. She swiftly made her way toward the exit.
  • By the time she exited the hospital, the nurse and doctor were arriving.
  • But as they reached the sycamore tree, Lisette was nowhere to be found.
  • Lisette started to jog away from the hospital.
  • She ran, carefully avoiding any surveillance cameras, and soon ducked into a narrow alley.
  • She needed to find a place without cameras.
  • This way, she wouldn't be easily tracked.
  • Meanwhile, the hospital was thrown into turmoil, with everyone frantically searching for Lisette.
  • Even Rhea had arrived.
  • "Is it so hard for you to just watch over a person? So useless!"
  • The doctors and nurses, chastised, kept their heads bowed in silence.
  • Rhea, seething with anger, pointed at them. "What are you standing around for? Find her! Turn the hospital upside down if you have to!"
  • "Yes, Mrs. Preston."
  • The staff scattered, leaving Rhea fuming, her eyes blazing with fury.
  • Lisette, you'd better hope I don't find you!
  • At that moment, a luxury car pulled up outside the hospital.
  • William stepped out.
