Chapter 10 Taken Away
- As Lisette left the villa, an unsettling feeling lingered, the man's piercing gaze still etched in her mind.
- Feeling uneasy, she decided to quit her part-time job.
- Though her pay wasn't due until the end of the month, her boss appreciated her hard work and paid her on the spot. Overwhelmed with gratitude, she thanked him earnestly. "Thank you so much, boss!"
- "Don't worry about it. Once you've sorted things out at home, come back. I'll still need your help."
- "Okay," she replied before hurrying off.
- Lisette quickly returned to the elderly lady's apartment.
- But as soon as she opened the door, her heart sank. Strangers were sitting on the sofa, and the bags she was holding slipped from her hands, falling to the floor.
- "What are you doing? Let me go! Let me go!" she screamed as they grabbed her, forcefully dragging her out of the apartment complex and shoving her into a car.
- Standing nearby, Chris watched the door slam shut before speaking into his phone. "We've got her, Neil. What's next?"
- Neil, casually toying with a lighter, smirked as he answered, "Take her to the Golden Hour Bar."
- "Got it!"
- Chris hung up and instructed the driver, "Take us to the Golden Hour Bar."
- Lisette overheard their conversation and panic surged through her. "Who are you? What do you want from me?"
- Her voice trembled with fear as she stared at the men who had abducted her. She had no idea who these people were or what they wanted.
- Chris glanced at her briefly, scanning her from head to toe before settling his gaze on her face. "Honestly, you're not even that attractive. Compared to Mabel, you're on such drastically different levels."
- He raised his hand, pointing upward, then downward.
- "I just don't understand why William married you and let you carry his child. It's … puzzling."
- He shook his head, dismissing the thought, and looked away.
- Lisette's heart skipped a beat. William … Is this somehow connected to him?
- "Did William send you?" she asked, her voice filled with desperation.
- Chris laughed dryly. "William? You're overthinking things."
- Panic seized her. If William didn't send them, then who did?
- Wait ... Mabel. He just mentioned Mabel!
- "Is Mabel behind this?" Lisette pressed on, though she had no real knowledge of who Mabel was.
- She hadn't done anything to this person, so she figured she would let her go.
- But Chris showed no interest in answering her questions. Instead, he lit a cigarette, his indifference only heightening her terror.
- Lisette gazed out of the window as the car sped toward an unknown destination. With two burly men seated on either side of her, any thoughts of escape seemed hopeless.
- What am I going to do?
- After an hour-long drive, just as night descended, the car arrived at the Golden Hour Bar.
- The moment the door opened, Lisette made a desperate attempt to flee.
- But her pregnancy made it impossible to outrun the men, and she was swiftly recaptured.
- She struggled against them, pleading, "I don't know this Mabel you're talking about! I haven't wronged her! Please, let me go!"
- Her cries fell on deaf ears as Chris ordered the men to drag her inside.
- Lisette was roughly thrown into a vast hall with gleaming white marble floors.
- Dim lighting overhead suddenly brightened, flooding the room with harsh light.
- She scanned her surroundings people, tables, chairs, a bar, musical instruments, expensive bottles of liquor, and a cold steel pole at the center.
- The place was lavish beyond belief.
- The atmosphere was unnervingly quiet, and all eyes were on her.
- Lisette, trembling with fear, curled up on the floor, clutching her belly protectively. She tried to back away but was trapped by two walls of people, leaving her no way out.
- Fear tightened its grip on her, but she forced herself to stand.
- Don't be afraid, baby. I will protect you. I promise I will!
