Chapter 24 Elena - Begging Her To Stay
- “Lord save me,” I whispered as I pulled up in front of Sarah's grande duplex apartment. I got out of the car in a heartbeat, and rushed straight in without even ringing the doorbell. I knew Sarah. I knew that whenever something huge happened, something bad, Sarah always hid away at home instead of confronting the situation head-on. I was right. She was lying haphazardly on the couch, sitting up the minute I came in, her eyes bloodshot red thanks to hours from crying.
- “Oh, Sarah,” I sighed as I took in the pink Hello Kitty pajamas she was wearing, and the melting bowl of ice-cream on the table. Of course she was watching A Walk To Remember. Part of me wholeheartedly understood and sympathized with her. The choice she made, at a sensitive time like this wasn't an easy one. It meant she was dead serious. She didn't just wake up to make such a huge decision like this. It took her months of mulling over it. It was heartbreaking of course, finally coming to terms with the fact that she couldn't have both her career and Richard.
- “Hey, Elena.” She held her arms up, and I bit back a smile as I plopped down next to her, moving into her arms for a much needed hug. I wrapped my arms around her and rubbed her back in comfort as she rested her head on my shoulder. “I'm sorry. I know you're disappointed as well,” she said remorsefully. “I know how much this wedding meant to you. I know how much effort and time you put into helping Gretchen with my gown and other areas, but I can't go through this. I can't sacrifice my career, and even though parting ways with Richard is painful as fuck, I can't subject myself to his family's suffocating rules for the rest of my life. We live just once, Elena. I tend to make the best use of my life.”
