Chapter 8 And Who Do You Think You Are?

  • Liam turned around and saw a Maserati pull up not far away. A young man and woman had just stepped out of the car.
  • The man was dressed in a suit, while the woman wore a formal gown paired with high heels. Both of them looked expensive.
  • As for their looks, they weren't bad. Just average.
  • "Thanks for your concern, but I'm already awake," Liam said, his brow furrowing slightly.
  • The man was Alex Turner, a classmate from his university days—someone who had bullied him frequently back then.
  • Seeing Alex reminded Liam of memories from the night of the car accident. He had been a bit drunk, but now that he thought about it, he vaguely remembered being shoved from behind just before the car hit him.
  • According to Petra, there had been no one with him after the accident, and his classmates had all disappeared. Yet he clearly remembered there were several people nearby before it happened.
  • "What's with this outfit? Are you performing some street art, or did that crash scramble your brain?"
  • Alex sneered as he looked Liam up and down. He mocked, "What are you even doing here anyway?
  • "This is the Mallin Estate that belonged to the top family in River City! This isn't a place for country bumpkins like you!"
  • Liam's outfit was odd—he was wearing a long, white robe in the middle of a scorching summer.
  • "Alex, it's been a few years, but your mouth still stinks like you've been eating trash," Liam said calmly, his voice steady.
  • He wasn't the same old Liam. The new Liam wouldn't tolerate this kind of trash any longer.
  • Alex froze for a moment, stunned.
  • Then his face flushed red with anger. "You little piece of crap! Who do you think you are, talking to me like that?"
  • "And who do you think you are, barking in front of me like a dog?"
  • Liam snapped back, a cold laugh escaping his lips. "Don't mess with me, or you'll regret it."
  • "Who the hell gave you the guts to talk to my boyfriend like that?"
  • Alex's plus one, Sydney Wells, suddenly chimed in with a sneer. "I'm Sydney Wells. My family commanded some influence in the city. You'd better apologize to Alex right now!"
  • "Liam, the Wells are one of the reputable families in River City! One word from Sydney and you won't be able to survive in this city!" Alex spoke, his smug expression growing as he folded his arms across his chest. "You better beg for mercy and apologize to me now. And maybe I'll let you off easy."
  • "Oh, I see where your confidence comes from," Liam said with a disdainful look.
  • "It's from your girlfriend. That's some real achievement—living off a woman. And not just any woman, one that's already been with way too many men."
  • "You dare to insult me?"
  • Sydney's voice trembled with fury. "Do you have a death wish?"
  • "Liam, you're just jealous!"
  • Alex taunted, laughing cruelly. "Sydney, don't be mad. Back in school, this country bumpkin was always trying to cling on to rich women, but who would ever want him? He's trash!
  • "And now, seeing that I've got a girl like you, he's all bitter and spewing nonsense!"
  • "Typical lowlife!" Sydney scoffed. "I'm giving you one last chance—you better bow and apologize to me or I'll make sure you can't even beg on the streets of River City!"
  • "And who do you think you are, talking to my man like that?"
  • A cold, clear voice rang out.
  • Petra appeared, walking over in an elegant gown that instantly made Sydney's outfit look cheap in comparison. Her poise, beauty, and presence outshone Sydney by a mile.
  • She walked up to Liam and linked her arm through his, her gaze icy as she looked down at Sydney.
  • "You're from the Wells? One of the bottom-tier reputable houses in River City? And where do you get the nerve to be this arrogant?" Petra said icily.
  • "You—You're Petra?" Alex stammered, his face pale with shock. "How ... How could you be that poor loser Liam's girlfriend?"
  • He was burning with jealousy. Petra had been the dream girl of every guy at River City University!
  • Smack!
  • Liam's hand came down on Alex's face with a sharp slap. "I told you your mouth stinks, but you just keep spewing garbage."
  • "You—you dare hit me?"
  • Alex screamed, his voice cracking. "I'm going to kill you, you worthless—"
  • Smack!
  • Another slap came from Liam, even harder this time.
  • "Y—you've gone too far!"
  • Sydney was fuming with anger.
  • "Too far?" Petra's voice was cold as ice. "My man was in a coma for three years. He just woke up, and you people dare try to bully him?
  • "Sydney, did your family really want to make an enemy of me?"
