• I looked at my Beta, then looked at my remaining pack members. Almost all of them were looking at me with disgust. The only person in the crowd smiling was Khalis. She looked both smug and terrified. She should be terrified. One thing I know about the royal family is that they will never let this go. We really are only alive right now because Zell willed it. I also know that they are not done with us yet. They may let the pack go because of their relationship with my father, but we will suffer greatly.
• Emil is rolled in a fetal position in the back of my mind whimpering. He is feeling the loss of his mate and the breaking of the mate bond. I never thought Zell would actually leave me. I really thought she would do anything to stay with me. If she had stayed with me, her family would not move against me or my pack. I would have been safe.
