• Hearing Julia tell me all the strange stuff her parents and Lisa's had been engaged in after knowing my own parents had done some of the dominance/submission stuff we experimented with, was surprising as hell to me. Yet it shouldn't have been. I suppose all people somehow imagined they were the ones to have invented sex, but the species wouldn't have survived without it. From the bacchanals of the Greeks, to the orgies of Caligula, to the key parties of the fifties and the free love communes of the sixties, I was certain everything under the sun had been tried at least once. Still knowing our parents had engaged in this stuff was as shocking to me as my own participation in the sex slavery of my wife. And the way she'd reacted to my suggestion she might deliver the experience of lesbian love to her mother teased the darker regions of my brain.
• This really did throw a whole new light on the activities of Memorial Day. I'd thought to protect our parents from the most egregious of our carrying on, but it was more we might need to be protected from them. I'd gone one step further than my parents by involving others in our game, but the rest of them were regularly going beyond anywhere I'd conceived. I couldn't imagine myself with another man under any circumstance, yet Reggie Lloyd had gone there. I wanted to be in control of the sex my wife was participating in, yet Julia's parents were unconcerned with who was having sex with whom. They just dated whoever they felt like sleeping with. To each his own, but if they didn't need to be protected, there could be some participation, changing the dynamics of what I'd originally planned.
