Chapter 2 I Have No Recollection

  • Warren's presence and his intensity made Penelope feel a little perturbed.
  • Warren pushed his document on his knees to stand up. He walked up to Penelope and stared at her. He questions with a low voice, "Are you Asher's girlfriend, Penelope Seinfeld?"
  • "Yes..." Penelope, who considers herself a calm girl, is numb and dull when being stared at by him.
  • "Have we met somewhere?" He took a step forward, and Penelope stepped back unsteadily.
  • "No, no, I have no recollection..." Penelope scratched her head and felt a guilty pleasure. Did she have an affair with such a handsome man? It couldn't be. Now that she thought about it, she was sure this handsome guy could cure her face blindness!
  • Warren straightened up with his hands behind him and said, "Sorry for the mistake."
  • His magnetic voice came, but Penelope could sense something was wrong with the way he answered.
  • "It doesn't matter. Everyone is entitled to a lame eye." Penelope tried to enliven the atmosphere with a flattering smile.
  • "A lame eye?"
  • The atmosphere failed to be enlivened.
  • She bowed her head to confess, "I'm sorry, I'm just kidding...."
  • He took a sharp, deep glance at her and sat back on the sofa, picking up the documents again as if he were going to ignore her.
  • Penelope opened her mouth but said nothing. She wondered whether she offended this big shot.
  • "Miss Seinfeld, please come with me." The stewardess appeared at the appropriate time and rescued Penelope from embarrassment.
  • They are working here. Penelope certainly can't stay there. She nodded and walked behind the stewardess.
  • Although the plane's fuselage limits the size of the bed, it is very comfortable.
  • The stewardess said, "You can call me if you need anything."
  • Then she left and closed the door.
  • To be honest, although this stewardess is beautiful and elegant, she seemed to not be very polite to her and even disdained her.
  • Penelope looked down at her stomach, which was slightly raised during the first trimester of pregnancy. The stewardess' disdain may come from this. After all, what she is bringing now is the label of "unmarried pregnancy" and "attempting to squeeze into the wealthy family."
  • She lay on the bed and buried her face in her hands. "It would be nice if it were true." She thought despairingly.
  • This long-planned fraud started with a pregnancy test a month ago. She found herself pregnant unexpectedly. Although shocked, she never considered aborting the baby.
  • She did not live happily in the first half of her life. Her father was derailed, and her mother committed suicide. She was adopted by a chain-smoking neighbor because she refused to go to the welfare home. The comfortable life did not last very long, her stepfather died of lung cancer, and she was finally forced to live in the streets and make a living on her own. When other young girls her age were studying in bright classrooms, she had to wander about the streets and sift through the dump to find valuable rubbish to sell. She was sometimes smashed when accidentally picking up a few bottles on someone's site.
  • The most heartbreaking thing was that Penelope finally found a hamburger to eat, but the stray dogs on the street targeted her. After being chased for 13 streets, she fell into the river. Fortunately, she was rescued by a kind-hearted man. However, she was sent to the hospital because of pneumonia.
  • All in all, the word "rough" is too narrow to describe her misery.
  • Even so, she thanked her mother for bringing her into this world, which enabled her to experience the joys and sorrows of life. Now she also wanted her child to see the world, which is his right.
  • The only problem confusing Penelope now is the baby's father. At first, she thought that the baby's father was Asher because they almost had sex but finally stopped after getting drunk at a party three months ago. Asher was excluded from the possibilities.
  • Her ex-boyfriend Ross. They broke up after just three months, but it might be him. But the reason they broke up was that Ross was cheating on her, so they barely ever had sex.
  • The key is that in addition to Ross, there was another man. One night, she got drunk and ran into his arms, and then she was pulled into the room. The man turned off the lights and made love to her. When Penelope woke up, he had left, leaving behind only a stack of bills which reminded her that he had a wonderful night.
  • He is strong technically, Penelope remembered him even if he hadn't left the bills to support her meals for a month. Well, for a person who has face blindness, in saying " remember," she means that she remembers this person, not what he looked like. She couldn't even recognize him when she was awake, on top of the fact that she had drank some wine that night.
  • She bit hard at the tip of her fingertips and cudgeled her brain for memories. However, she recalled nothing in addition to remembering that the man wore a black sweater.
  • This has become an unsolved problem. How can she find her baby's father in such a big world?
  • The more depressing thing is that when Penelope told Asher about this matter, he did not share her worries but persuaded her to act as his girlfriend to resist the growing pressure of forced marriage in his family. Asher is gay. He would rather die than marry a woman arranged by his family. Penelope was pregnant and could go on a show to make money. She lacked economic resources. Each took what he needed.
  • Penelope accepted his proposal because she didn't want her child to experience hunger as she did.
  • However, Asher's family members are suspicious of his words. They are also afraid that Asher will be deceived by Penelope. Therefore, Asher's uncle picked her up and took her back to verify the truth. However, technically, in addition to the paternity test after the baby is born, they are unable to determine whether Asher is the baby's father. At that time, Penelope will have finished her "service period'', she may have gone back to the United States, and the upcoming problem will be Asher's own business.
  • The plan is perfect, but while Penelope is lying on a soft bed, she has a feeling that her future is uncertain. What's worse, Asher's uncle seems hard to deal with.
  • Now that she thought of it, if she knew that the play was a test of acting skills, she would have raised the price a bit higher before she accepted the proposal.
  • Note: From a medical point of view, the paternity test can be done by drawing amniotic fluid, but this method is probably harmful to the fetus, so generally, it is not adopted.
