• I suddenly realized the source of the embarrassment and disappointment on the old man's face. He had been discharged from the hospital today, but Julius Adler didn't come to pick him up. He must be somewhat disappointed.
• "Oh," I said, "maybe there's a lot of work at the company, and it's the same for me to pick you up."
