Chapter 4 Fulfilling The Duties Of A Wife

  • Carol's face paled slightly. Could it be that Bianca had made a mistake with the marriage certificate?
  • Her mind raced as she processed the situation.
  • Initially, she had asked Bianca to create a fake marriage certificate to avoid being judged by Selly and David. Now, due to a series of unfortunate events, she found herself actually married. It felt like a dream.
  • Just as Carol was filled with doubts, her phone on the table buzzed, receiving a message from Selly.
  • The message contained a picture of her, dressed in a wedding gown, in an intimate moment with David.
  • "Next month, on the 15th, David and I are getting engaged. You must come!"
  • After reading the message, Carol sneered.
  • Just because she didn't give her virginity to David, he turned around and slept with her best friend. The two of them schemed behind her back, and she was only informed when they got engaged.
  • David had lied to her three days ago, even coaxing her into believing they would get married. She foolishly came over to marry him.
  • They made a perfect couple!
  • Provoked by the scum and the scheming woman, Carol's eyes gradually revealed a determined expression. What's wrong with going with the flow and embracing the unexpected?
  • She wouldn't let these two people bully her!
  • Normally, she wouldn't take the risk of a spontaneous marriage.
  • But Bianca had arranged the man in front of her, and he worked at the Lawfords. She didn't have to worry about danger, and their marriage certificate was genuine. She had even less reason to fear exposure.
  • Carol looked at Jayden, gathered her courage, and said, "Alright! Since we accidentally got married, let's establish some ground rules!"
  • Five minutes later, an agreement was handed to Carol.
  • Jayden sat across from her, relaxed and composed, exuding an elegant and noble aura. He patiently waited for Carol to finish reading the agreement.
  • Carol examined each provision in the agreement, and her brows furrowed more and more.
  • Finally, she pointed to one of the clauses and asked, "What does it mean by 'when necessary, I must fulfill the duties of a wife'?"
  • Did that duty refer to having a sexual relationship with him?
  • Jayden's sharp eyes calmly looked at Carol as he unhurriedly replied, "Literally, it means you have to fulfill your obligations as Mrs. Lawford."
  • Grandpa might come himself or send someone to assess the situation. Although their marriage was fake, Carol needed to play her role as his wife well and help him deal with Grandpa.
  • Hearing this from Jayden, Carol felt that her guess was correct.
  • This guy wanted to sleep with her legally!
  • Due to family and personal reasons, she had agreed with David to wait until after their marriage to have a physical relationship.
  • Now that she and this man were strangers, it was their first meeting. Although they had accidentally gotten married, progressing to this step suddenly seemed too fast for her, and she wasn't quite ready to accept it.
  • Carol began to hesitate, feeling the urge to escape from this situation.
  • She put the agreement down. "H-how about we just forget about it? Tomorrow, let's go to the Civil Affairs Bureau and cancel this absurd marriage."
  • Finding someone else to impersonate Jayden was a plausible option.
  • "Why?" Jayden asked.
  • "We are strangers, and there is no emotional foundation. Getting married like this is too rushed," Carol said, trying to find various reasons.
  • Her main concern was giving herself away.
  • Jayden remained calm and composed as he patiently advised, "Many couples get married without love, and love can be cultivated."
  • Besides, their marriage was purely contractual. Many people would love to become his wife, and he didn't understand why Carol had concerns.
  • After a pause, he asked in a conciliatory tone, "Do you have any concerns?"
