Chapter 12 Tricked
- Her heart, which had only just gotten a little warmer because of Zhan Lengrui, plunged back into icy, cold waters.
- Outside, the sky was gradually darkening and the first star was starting to twinkle.
- Zhan Mingmei had called Zhan Lengrui just now to ask if he would be coming back for dinner. With a short 'no', he hung up.
- Zhan Mingmei smiled and put her phone down. Tilting her head to look at An Qingshan, she said, “Lengrui is busy and won't be coming. Let's eat.”
- He nodded and supported her as she got up. He was treating her like she was his queen.
- Zhan Mingmei asked, “Is everything ready?”
- “Yes, don't worry. Tonight, I'll make sure to deliver that damn brat to Mr. He,” An Qingshan chuckled.
- Zhan Mingmei nodded and stared at her husband for a moment. Finally, she said, “Qingshan, you don't blame me, do you? Xiaoxiao is your daughter, but for the sake of our son....”
- An Qingshan hurriedly said, “How could I blame you? I'm more than grateful to you for finally getting rid of that damn brat for me.”
- To him, An Xiaoxiao was a good-for-nothing, useless burden.
- Unlike Zhan Mingmei. If he pleased his wife enough, she would most definitely put in a few good words about him to Zhan Lengrui. When that happened, the good life would be his for the taking!
- Besides, once a daughter married and took on her husband's surname, she was practically an outsider.
- Everything he had, his property and money, was supposed to be for his heir who would be his son.
- In An Qingshan's mind, having a son and high status were the most important things in life.
- The two of them chatted as they walked out of their room. Glancing at An Xiaoxiao's room, Zhan Mingmei stopped. “Qingshan, you head on downstairs first. I'll go ask Xiaoxiao to come eat dinner.”
- An Qingshan paused before nodding, “Fine. It's the last time you have to trouble yourself with her. Go on then.”
- Zhan Mingmei did not reply as she headed towards An Xiaoxiao's room. She did not bother knocking but pushed the door open and walked right in. “Xiaoxiao, dinner is ready.”
- An Xiaoxiao was sprawled on the bed fiddling with her phone.
- She was actually trying to find a house to move into so that she no longer had to live with her parents.
- She still had the five hundred thousand that her mom had left for her. She could use that money to find herself a place.
- After that, all she had to do was find a part-time job while continuing with her studies. She was certain that she would be able to survive on her own.
- She really did not want to stay where she was for a moment longer.
- Hearing what Zhan Mingmei had said, An Xiaoxiao put away her phone and rolled off the bed.
- As she entered the dining room, she saw her father and An Ruxue, her half-sister, were already seated at the table.
- An Xiaoxiao lowered her eyes and ignored the both of them. Sitting down in her seat, she picked up her chopsticks.
- An Qingshan snorted, “No manners. Aren't you going to greet your father and sister?”
- The fingers holding her chopsticks stiffened.
- Father and sister? Hah!
- From the moment An Qingshan had moved Zhan Mingmei and An Ruxue in that house, An Xiaoxiao did not receive the slightest bit of love from him anymore. He constantly belittled and scolded her. Could that even be called fulfilling his responsibilities as a father?
- As for her 'sister', An Xiaoxiao only knew her mother had had one daughter - her.
- An Xiaoxiao pinched her lips shut tightly and did not say anything. She had lost the impulse to talk back to him.
- I'm leaving here tomorrow anyways.
- She bent her head and ate the rice in her bowl, not noticing the smug looks on the three of them as they watched her eat.
- Gradually, An Xiaoxiao felt something was wrong.
- Hot!
- Her whole body was starting to feel unnaturally hot.
- What is going on?
- She snapped her head up but her vision swam and her head began to feel fuzzy.
- An Xiaoxiao's face grew warmer and warmer and she felt extremely uncomfortable.
- Just what is....
- “Alright, time to deliver her to Mr. He.” An Qingshan leaped to his feet excitedly and left to call his men.
