• Skylar started.
• "On the morning of the day that I lost my parents, I went to my parents' house to get a new pair of sneakers which I ordered for Natalie, my cousin. She was to compete for a golden trophy at a volleyball competition which was going to take place at her school that morning.
• I had promised to get her a new pair of sneakers if she won. When I entered the living room, I met my parents talking in hushed tones with a man. I have never seen him before. The looks on the faces of my parents connoted fear and danger.
