Chapter 5 The Ruthless Woman Returns

  • From Amanda's perspective, Miles, who was standing not too far away and listening to the reports from his subordinates, was simply a masterpiece meticulously crafted by God. He was flawless, so stunning that even the brilliance of the sun and moon would pale in comparison.
  • Miles was scanning his surroundings as if he was searching for someone.
  • Amanda's heart suddenly clenched. Did he find out that I'm returning to the country today? That's why he sent people to stop the three of us?
  • She never expected that she would meet this man on her first day back in the country.
  • The emotions she had concealed for numerous years momentarily stirred, only to swiftly retreat into silence.
  • Her eyes were cold.
  • She was finally able to keep a straight face before the man.
  • At that moment, Miles' gaze rested on Amanda. However, she was wearing sunglasses and a black mask, accompanied by a young boy at her side. This caused a slight frown to form on Miles' face.
  • Amanda was engrossed in her phone, admitting to herself that she still couldn't remain unfazed when facing Miles.
  • Luckily, Elliot, who had gone to the restroom, finally came out. He said to Amanda in his piping voice, “Mommy, I'm done!”
  • Amanda's heart almost skipped a beat, and a thought came to mind.
  • I have to leave immediately. I can't allow Alvin and Elliot to meet him. They look very much like him. I will be discovered if they meet. I don't want to have anything to do with him anymore!
  • Fortunately, Elliot was obediently wearing his mask, so it was unlikely that Miles could discern anything.
  • Amanda was so flustered inwardly that she quickly responded, “You're done? Let's hurry, then. We shouldn't keep Aunt Flora waiting too long.”
  • After saying what she had to say, she didn't wait for the two boys to respond and hastily left with her suitcase.
  • Alvin and Elliot found it somewhat odd as Amanda led them away. She seemed to be afraid of something. Looks like Mommy still doesn't feel too happy about this trip back.
  • “Amanda! Alvin! Elliot!”
  • From a distance, a woman's voice echoed.
  • “Hurry, get in the car! You all must be starving!” Flora Sandoval urged the mother and her two children to get in the car, knowing all too well that the airport was far from an ideal place for catching up.
  • Amanda also felt that she shouldn't linger at the airport, especially with Miles nearby. She glanced at the airport entrance nonchalantly and said, “I am indeed hungry. Let's get something to eat.”
  • Alvin and Elliot got into the car one after another. Just then, a small figure suddenly darted into the back seat of the car.
  • The four of them were taken aback by the small figure that suddenly appeared. Flora exclaimed in surprise, “Kid, you're in the wrong car. This isn't a taxi!”
  • At that moment, the backseat was occupied by an adorable little girl. Her skin was fair and her eyes were sparkling. With her cute nose and delicate features, she was quite a sight. She was dressed in a soft pink princess dress and sported two little braids. She was also cradling an expensive-looking doll in her arms. One could only wonder from which household this little princess had escaped.
  • “Kid, you're in the wrong car. Where are your daddy and mommy? How come you're all by yourself?” Amanda scanned the surroundings, but she didn't see anyone in a hurry looking for a child.
  • The little girl clung tightly to the doll in her arms, remaining silent and merely shaking her head at her.
  • Amanda was in a hurry to leave the airport, fearing that if she lingered any longer, she would be spotted by Miles. However, a little girl had climbed into their car. If the girl's parents were to come looking and accuse them of kidnapping, it would lead to a major misunderstanding.
  • The little girl remained silent for quite some time. Alvin and Elliot looked at each other. There was confusion evident in their eyes.
  • This little girl is incredibly adorable, but she hasn't spoken a word for quite some time. She's not a mute, is she?
  • A suspicion flashed across Amanda's mind as well. Could this little girl be mute?
  • Considering this possibility, she felt a deep sympathy for her. In a soft, gentle voice, she asked, “Could you give me your parents' contact information?”
  • As she spoke, she extended her hand forward.
  • The little girl timidly glanced at her, her expression softening at the sound of her voice. She had just seen this woman accompanied by two young boys and inexplicably, she thought of her own mother. She, too, wished for a mother's hand to hold as she walked.
  • Once she got into the car and closed the door, Amanda was in no hurry. She patiently waited for her to accept her.
  • The little girl hesitated for quite a while, but in the end, she shook her head, not really wanting to get in touch with her father.
  • Amanda found herself in a bit of a predicament. “Well... okay, let's head back to the city first, and then we can go find a police officer together. We'll ask the officer to help you find your daddy and mommy. Does that sound good?”
  • Upon hearing this, the little girl couldn't help but tug at Amanda's clothes and shake her head.
  • She doesn't want to reach out to her family, nor does she want to go to the police station... It dawned on Amanda that this little girl might have run away from home.
  • Meanwhile, Miles, with his tall and slender figure, appeared at the airport entrance.
  • “Cancel all matters abroad,” the man coldly ordered his assistant, Walter Livingston, who was standing by his side.
  • Walter nodded and said, “Mr. Franklin, we've already sent people to expand the search for Ms. Selina. She's so young. She couldn't have gone far. Don't worry too much.”
  • Selina had always been the apple of Miles' eye. Compared to her, those overseas jobs seemed insignificant.
  • Miles' eyes were dark. Wordlessly, he strode toward the Maybach parked by the roadside.
  • In no time, the car sped off into the distance.
  • Over at Amanda's side, it was clear that the little girl was highly resistant to her proposal.
  • Upon seeing her pitiful state, Amanda felt as if her heart was shattering.
  • However, there wasn't any other option. The little girl was so young. If she didn't take her to the police station promptly, she might be accused of kidnapping.
  • Amanda was plagued by a relentless headache.
  • “Sweetie, I don't want to be accused of kidnapping. Do you have your mommy and daddy's phone number? I can call them to come pick you up,” she gently negotiated with the little girl.
  • Upon hearing this, the little girl stopped shaking her head. However, her beautiful eyes dimmed a bit.
  • After waiting for her response for quite a while, Amanda thought she didn't have her parents' phone number. She was just about to take her to the police station when she started to move again.
  • Amanda watched as she pulled out a pen and a small sticky note from her pocket. She scribbled a string of numbers on it, followed by the word “Daddy,” and then handed the note to her.
  • Amanda reached out to take it and dialed the little girl's father's number.
  • “Hello.” Amanda looked at her phone signal, puzzled. The call had connected, but no one was speaking.
  • Amanda waited for a response for quite some time, but when none came, she asked in confusion. “Hello? Is anyone there?” Is it because the signal is bad?
  • All that came from the other end of the phone was a hum.
  • Seeing someone respond from the other end, yet with a touch of indifference, Amanda wondered if the little girl's parents could truly be so unconcerned about their runaway daughter.
  • Amanda furrowed her brows and said patiently, “I found a little girl and she gave me this number. You must be her father, right? Do you have time to come and pick her up?”
  • On the other side, the person who received the call from Amanda was none other than Miles, who was anxiously searching for his daughter.
  • The more she spoke, the colder the look in his eyes.
  • By the time her voice had finally faded, a layer of frost had already settled in the depths of the man's eyes.
  • Amanda!
  • So, you've finally come back after all!
  • Miles gritted his teeth, his voice dropping low as he asked, “Where?”
  • Amanda replied, “If you're coming to pick her up, we won't take her to the police station. We'll head straight to Dionysus Courtyard and have lunch first. After all, it's mealtime and the kid might be hungry. She'll need something to eat. We hope you can get there in time.”
  • “All right.”
  • With that, Miles abruptly ended the call and ordered Walter, “Get the car. We're heading to Dionysus Courtyard.”
  • Walter had no idea where Miles' sudden anger had come from and quickly agreed to his demands.
