Chapter 4 A Familiar Voice
- The deep-seated agitation in Amanda's memory made her feel somewhat irritated when facing Mitchell at that moment.
- Some things, even after six years, were still so hard for her to look back on.
- “Professor Morgan, I really...” Amanda wanted to say that she really didn't wish to return, but the person she was facing was, after all, her teacher. When she was a pregnant student studying abroad, it was Mitchell who had helped her overcome numerous difficulties. She softened her tone as much as possible as she said, “I've grown attached to this place. It's hard to leave.”
- Mitchell was well aware of Amanda's circumstances, but he believed that one must always look forward in life, not allowing past events to hinder their progress.
- “Amanda, I understand that you're reluctant to return, but I still hope you'll give it some thought... Over these years, you've been studying medicine with me. You should realize the wealth of medicinal resources Clusia possesses. It will be quite convenient for you to engage in any kind of research. Look at our current situation. We have to negotiate with intermediaries for every ingredient we need, which results in significant financial loss. If we were to establish our research institute back home, we would have a plethora of medicinal resources at our disposal for the researchers to use. Most importantly, we could save a lot on customs fees by purchasing ingredients domestically. Moreover, some ingredients cannot be imported or exported. So... I suggest you go back! With your abilities, you're destined for great achievements in the future. Besides, you've already undergone significant transformations. No matter what happens or who you encounter, you should be able to handle it well, right?”
- A wave of intense emotion surged within Amanda. Professor Morgan's analysis is spot on. To further advance my career, returning to Clusia is inevitable.
- I also can't bear the thought of my lifelong dedication to pharmaceutical research coming to a halt.
- Moreover, it's been six years. I can handle even the most challenging task without batting an eye. What is there left to fear about something that happened six years ago?
- Those private matters have long since become insignificant as time went by.
- And after six years, there's a good chance Miles has already married Samantha. They might even have a child who could be around four or five years old.
- Miles and Samantha have their own lives, and I, too, have my own life and career. So, what do I have to worry about?
- Miles can't be still upset about the incident six years ago when I drugged him.
- I was in the wrong for drugging him, but I took the initiative to present the signed divorce agreement later. Miles and Samantha should be grateful for me letting go.
- Upon this thought, Amanda took a deep breath and nodded. “Professor Morgan, your analysis was spot on. Now, I no longer worry about returning home.”
- Mitchell was somewhat pleased. “I'm glad you've come to understand so quickly! Don't worry, I'll have Katerina accompany you this time. I'll also arrange a professional team to assist you.”
- “All right. Thank you, Professor Morgan!”
- Amanda nodded.
- As the two were engaged in conversation, Alvin and Elliot exchanged a glance. In each other's eyes, they saw excitement.
- Mommy is finally going back to Clusia!
- They had been wanting to return for a long time.
- They were eager to meet their father and seize the opportunity to teach him a lesson.
- Even after six years, Amanda would sometimes call out for Miles in her dreams. This alone was a clear indication of the profound pain he had inflicted upon her.
- Two days later, Amanda, accompanied by her two precious sons, set foot once again on the land she had been away from for six years.
- As soon as they disembarked from the plane and emerged from the gate, Elliot squeezed his legs together and tugged at Amanda's skirt hem. “Mommy, I really need to pee. I need to go to the restroom.”
- Elliot was in a hurry to use the restroom. Before Amanda and Alvin could even react, he had already dashed off toward the restroom.
- Amanda held onto Alvin's hand, her other hand clutching a suitcase. As she watched Elliot's figure recede further into the distance, a wave of unease surged within her heart. What if Elliot meets a bad guy?
- With these thoughts in mind, she hurried toward the restroom, one hand holding onto Alvin, and the other pulling her suitcase.
- As Elliot rushed toward the men's restroom, he ran headlong into a man's long legs.
- “Ouch!” Elliot winced in pain, his face hidden behind a black mask. He lifted his gaze to meet the towering man before him. A handsome and familiar face appeared in his line of sight.
- “I'm sorry,” Elliot hastily apologized. This handsome man reminded him how great it would be if he were his own father. “I really have to pee, and I accidentally bumped into you. I'm sorry!”
- At that time, Miles was already on edge. Selina had run away from home, and the tracker showed she was around the airport.
- He had looked everywhere, only to find out that the GPS-enabled phone had been left by Selina in the airport restroom.
- The child by his side had eyes that felt eerily familiar to him. He couldn't help but think of that woman, and a question for the young boy was itching at his heart.
- But before he had a chance to ask, the little boy had already darted into the restroom. At the same time, his phone began to ring. Hastily, he answered the call, only to receive a piece of news that greatly infuriated him.
- “Useless! There are so many of you, yet you can't even keep an eye on a child. What good are you?”
- The speaker's voice was laced with anger, yet it carried a unique sense of cold clarity and depth that was incredibly pleasing to the ear.
- Amanda was leading Alvin to the restroom when she heard that voice. Abruptly, she halted her steps, her body stiffening.
- Hearing this voice again after six years didn't feel strange at all. Instead, it held a familiarity that resonated deep within her.
