Chapter 3 Events From Six Years Ago

  • “Ms. Dickerson, you've been pregnant for five weeks now.”
  • The doctor's words sent a jolt of panic through Amanda's heart.I'm pregnant? Could it be from that night?
  • Even though many days had passed, she couldn't help but blush whenever she thought of that night.
  • “Miles, it's been three years. We've been married for three years, yet you've never wanted to touch me... Can we do it just this once tonight?” Amanda asked, her voice filled with a humble plea as she faced Miles.
  • The man standing before her was filled with indifference. She was acutely aware that her affection for him had become so self-deprecating that she was slowly losing her identity. This realization brought her immense pain.
  • With desperation and fervor, she kissed the man before her, yearning to experience being his wife just once truly.
  • “Amanda! What on earth are you doing?” Miles gritted his teeth in frustration. His strikingly handsome face twisted with fury.
  • He pushed the woman clinging to him with all his might, but his movements were unfortunately not very forceful. A tumultuous restlessness surged within him, threatening to overwhelm his sanity.
  • No, I have to distance myself from this lunatic. How audacious of her to drug me!
  • As it wasn't an extremely potent aphrodisiac, Miles felt he could still control himself.
  • “Miles...” Amanda couldn't help but cry. “Am I really that bad? So bad that you don't even want to touch me?”
  • “Yes!” Miles was seething with anger. “What makes you think you're qualified to be my wife? Based on your abilities? Your family background?”
  • “So, Samantha is the only one worthy, is she?” Amanda thought about that high and mighty young lady from the Hogan family. She and Miles were simply a match made in heaven.
  • Amanda's eyes welled up with tears. She understood all too well that by drugging Miles, she had crossed an irreversible line. She was ready to step back to make way for the relationship between Miles and Samantha.
  • But that night, all she wanted was to possess him just once, nothing more wholly.
  • Under her teasing, the frustrated and furious Miles finally surrendered.
  • After a wild night, Miles got up early in the morning, enduring the soreness all over his body as he dressed himself. He glared at the woman beside him, still lost in her dreams, wanting to give her a harsh lesson. However, he found himself helpless, and in the end, he could only leave the mansion without uttering a word, his face cold.
  • He was the esteemed CEO of Franklin Group, yet he had been drugged with an aphrodisiac by his wife in name only. If word of this got out, he could only imagine the mockery he would face.
  • Amanda had been awake for quite some time, yet she was unsure how to confront this disastrous situation.
  • “Miles, I give up,” Amanda mumbled into her blanket. As pitiful as she was, she had reached a point where she needed to resort to underhanded means to get the man she loved to share her bed.
  • She had been in love with Miles for seven years.
  • From her adolescence through her college years, he remained a constant presence in her thoughts.
  • Her greatest wish was to be able to marry him.
  • However, he deeply detested her the moment they got married.
  • At that time, Heath Franklin was gravely ill and needed a dose of joy to boost his spirits. As she was a suitable candidate, she was chosen.
  • Her father and stepmother, who valued money above all else, didn't hesitate to send her over.
  • She was overjoyed, but that happiness was confined to the day of the wedding.
  • Then Miles appeared, his face filled with disgust, and he said, “Amanda, the woman I want to marry is Samantha, not you! Only she is worthy of being my wife. You're not good enough!”
  • Following that, Samantha appeared before her, her face filled with disdain as if she were looking at a clown. “You're the woman Old Mr. Franklin chose for Miles? How ridiculous. Miles knows better than anyone that being with me is the right decision.”
  • She thought that devoting herself wholeheartedly to being a good wife could make Miles fall deeply in love with her. However, the days Miles returned to the mansion were few and far between.
  • They never even had a chance to spend time together, so how could Miles possibly fall for her? Consequently, she took it upon herself to approach Miles. But what she got in return was nothing but his indifference and disdain.
  • It wasn't until last night, when she humbly pleaded with Miles, drugging him and forcing him into intimacy with her, that she truly understood. When a man doesn't love you, he simply doesn't love you.
  • If he doesn't love you, even sharing a bed with you will make him feel sick.
  • Amanda knew it was time for this marriage to end. She couldn't possibly let herself be a resentful woman of a wealthy family for the rest of her life.
  • She was convinced that she could start anew once she left this place.
  • Miles seemed to have completely disappeared during this period, and she had learned to step out of Miles' world willingly.
  • She no longer cooked lunch for Miles, nor did she go to his office to remind him to eat on time.
  • Amanda was so engrossed in sorting out her paperwork for studying abroad that she completely overlooked the fact that her period had been delayed for quite some time.
  • When Amanda returned to the mansion, she looked at the pregnancy test result with a throbbing headache. Her first thought was to abort it. Even if she didn't want to, both Miles and Samantha would force her to the hospital for an abortion upon finding out.
  • Her divorce from Miles was inevitable, and when the time came, Samantha certainly wouldn't want to see that Miles had an illegitimate child out there.
  • A week later, Amanda entered the hospital, aware that she couldn't keep the child.
  • “Ms. Dickerson, are you certain you don't want this child?” The doctor confirmed this extremely important decision with her.
  • “I...” Amanda found it incredibly difficult to utter the word “certain.”
  • The child is my only kin now. Am I truly ready to give it up?
  • But what will become of my studies if I don't give it up? How am I to provide for the child? And what will be the endgame between me and Miles?
  • Amanda was immensely vexed, truly struggling to make a decision. In the end, the doctor advised her to give it more thought but emphasized the need to decide as soon as possible.
