• Weeks passed, and the Walker home was never less tense. Every groan of the house, every moonlight shade, appeared to be hiding a possible danger. Jacks and Charlotte were on edge all the time, waiting for Lucy to do something.
• Though their paid private security guards diligently monitored the outside of their house, they continued to feel watched. Jacks saw a figure in the far-off shadows, just outside the reach of the lights, one evening while he was going over the most recent video from the security cameras. He panned in, heart thumping, but the figure disappeared like a puff of smoke.
