Chapter 14 I'll Tell You

  • "Mr. Davidson, do you think this useless live-in son-in-law might try to confront you?" Harvey asked mockingly.
  • "Would he be bold enough? This guy wouldn't even dare to touch Mr. Davidson! Hahaha!"
  • "He's not worth even a single hair of Mr. Davidson. If he tries anything, we'll make sure he regrets it!"
  • "What's wrong with you? Lost your voice? Scared out of your wits?" Harvey laughed loudly. "Oscar, could you be any more useless? Mr. Davidson came for your wife, and you don't even have the guts to say a word. You're such a failure!"
  • The crowd around them laughed even harder at these remarks.
  • Mandy went pale with embarrassment. Even though she and Oscar were nominally still married, his humiliation reflected poorly on her too.
  • If she had known tonight would end like this, she wouldn't have brought him along.
  • Lillian, standing nearby, glared at Oscar and said, "Are you going to get mad? If you try to do anything tonight, you'll pay the price!"
  • "Oscar, are you so intimidated by your mother-in-law that you can't even speak up? Come on, share your thoughts! What do you think about Mr. Davidson's proposal to Mandy? Do you agree or disagree? Say something!"
  • Harvey showed no signs of letting Oscar off the hook. Instead, he seemed genuinely intrigued. Humiliating Oscar was entertaining to him.
  • Oscar glanced at Harvey and responded slowly, "Alright, if you want me to speak, I will. Setting everything else aside for now, I want to clarify that the Morsenspir's Heart Mandy is wearing was a gift from me. I don't want anyone else taking credit for it."
  • Immediately, the entire villa fell silent. People stared at Oscar in shock as if they'd seen a ghost.
  • "Hahaha ... "
  • Soon, someone broke the silence with laughter, and it quickly spread through the crowd.
  • "Hahaha, this guy is hilarious. Is he claiming he bought the Morsenspir's Heart? Does he even know how expensive it is?"
  • "I didn't believe he was a fool before, but now I do. He must be out of his mind!"
  • "Unbelievable! How can he be so shameless to claim that the gift from Mr. Davidson was actually from him?"
  • Amidst the commotion, only Lawrence's eyes twitched slightly. But he quickly composed himself and continued to watch with a smirk.
  • Harvey was laughing so hard he was nearly doubled over. Between bursts of laughter, he pointed at Oscar and said, "Oscar, you're such a show-off! Have you been so rattled that you've lost your mind? Do you think people will believe you by saying this? Even if I try to believe you, at least tell me where you got this from."
  • "I had someone buy it," Oscar replied indifferently. It was a gift he had requested from the Daltons, so of course it was purchased.
  • "You had someone buy it?" Harvey managed to control his laughter enough to ask, "And how much did you spend?"
  • "I didn't spend any money. Someone asked me for a favor, so it was given to me as a gift," Oscar said calmly.
  • "Someone asked you for a favor? And gave you a gift?" Harvey nearly collapsed with laughter again.
  • Laughter erupted around the room.
  • Everyone thought Oscar was hilarious. Asking him for a favor? Giving him a gift?
  • With his unimpressive background, who would ask him for a favor? What could he possibly offer?
  • "So, what did they ask you to do?" Harvey continued to mock.
  • "They asked for an investment from Dalton Investment Company," Oscar answered coolly.
  • Harvey spat out his drink. "Oscar, don't tell me you think you have a connection with Dalton Investment Company just because you share the same last name. Are you seriously dreaming?"
  • Lawrence, who had been enjoying the show, finally turned to Oscar with a serious, mocking expression. "Are you saying you have control over our company's funds? Don't spout nonsense. You, a mere live-in son-in-law, have the nerve to use Dalton Investment Company's name to brag. Have you thought about the consequences?"
  • "Consequences? Lawrence, you, a mid-level employee, are using Dalton Investment Company's name to deceive people here. Have you considered the repercussions?" Oscar's eyes were cold.
  • Lawrence sneered. "You have no idea what you're talking about. My role at the company is beyond what someone like you could imagine. I'm the project manager at Dalton Investment Company. I oversee at least one-third of the company's 750 million investment this round."
  • He looked arrogant as he continued, "Do you understand what that means? It means that countless families and businesses in Wavecrest depend on my decisions!"
  • Harvey looked at Lawrence with admiration and then turned to Oscar, scolding him, "Oscar! How dare you speak out of turn without knowing anything! You're embarrassing us!"
  • Someone chimed in, "Mr. Davidson is a high-ranking executive at Dalton Investment Company. How can a live-in son-in-law like you question his position?"
  • "Oscar, I suggest you apologize to Mr. Davidson now, or you'll regret it later!"
  • "Mr. Davidson, don't waste your time on this fool. He has no idea how significant your status is!"
  • "With Mr. Davidson here, securing project funds for our family is just a matter of time ..."
  • Watching the Prestons fawning over Lawrence, Oscar couldn't help but smirk. Turning to Lawrence, he said, "I heard that the 750 million investment is under the control of the new CEO of Dalton Investment Company. Do you think a middle-level employee like you has any say in this?"
  • Lawrence sneered. "Do you know what's going on with our company? I'm the trusted aide of the new CEO, and I have his complete trust."
  • Although Lawrence had never met the new CEO, he felt confident boasting in front of the Prestons, knowing they wouldn't question him.
  • Oscar laughed softly. "Oh, so you have his full trust? Lawrence, you're so skilled at spinning tall tales!"
  • Lawrence was taken aback. The Prestons were too intimidated to question him, so how did this son-in-law seem to know so much?
  • After scrutinizing Oscar and concluding that he couldn't possibly know the new CEO, Lawrence said coolly, "So, do you mean you know about our new CEO? Even Mr. Norman wouldn't make such claims. What gives you the nerve to speak like that?"
  • "Mr. Davidson, he's ignorant and doesn't know his place. Please ignore him!"
  • "He's just a fool. Don't bother with him."
  • "Tsk, look at him. He might even think he's awesome—"
  • "Enough!" Norman frowned slightly, looking at Oscar coldly. "Oscar, you have no right to speak. Do you think you're someone special? Get out!"
  • "Get out! Don't embarrass yourself here!"
  • "You ruined our reputation!"
  • Lawrence chuckled and gestured for everyone to be quiet, then said, "Alright, I won't make things worse for you. I'll give you a chance today.
  • "If you can tell me who the new CEO of our company is, I'll apologize to you. But if you can't, you'll be leaving the Prestons!"
  • As he spoke, Lawrence imagined Oscar crawling out of the gate. The new CEO had just started today and was quite secretive. Even Lawrence didn't know the new CEO's name. How could this live-in son-in-law of the Prestons possibly know?
  • "Mr. Davidson, you're truly generous to offer a chance to a loser, who can only rely on others for support! You bring honor to us!"
  • "Oscar, have you no shame? Apologize to Mr. Davidson now!"
  • "Oscar, who do you think you are?" Lillian shouted, standing up and pointing at him. "Who gave you the authority to act like that? Do you believe you're so important? How dare you behave this way! Get out of here!"
  • Everyone around was struggling to keep from laughing. Even Oscar's mother-in-law showed no sympathy. It seemed like this son-in-law was as good as done for.
  • In the past, Oscar would have apologized right away. But now, he gave a slight, cold smile and stared directly at Lillian.
  • Mandy was amazed—after three years of marriage, she never imagined Oscar, who had always been so timid and ineffectual, could act like this.
  • Oscar straightened up, glanced at everyone, and found the disdainful expressions of the Prestons intolerable.
  • Taking a deep breath, he said coolly, "Do you all want to know who the new CEO of Dalton Investment Company is?
  • "Well, I'll tell you!"
