Chapter 4 So What if You're Rich?

  • "Why would I need to explain myself?" Oscar asked coldly. "Mandy is my wife. Stay away from her if you know what's good for you. If you're feeling frisky, take it somewhere else!
  • "If my wife wants roses, I'll buy them for her myself. She doesn't need anything from you!
  • "She's beautiful and those cheap flowers don't match her at all. I'll have Morsenspir roses delivered to her tonight!"
  • "Are you stupid or just delusional? Morsenspir roses cost 1,500 dollars each. Can you even afford one? I heard you begged Norman for an electric scooter last night. A loser like you couldn't even sell a kidney for one of those roses! Where do you get the nerve to act so high and mighty?" Lawrence sneered
  • I'm someone with power and wealth. Why would I put up with insults from a lowly live-in son-in-law like Oscar?
  • How dare Oscar destroy Mandy's flowers and also drag Mandy to the elevator? What does he want?
  • Lawrence scoffed and spoke to Mandy. "Mandy, you want that 750 thousand investment, right? I can make it happen."
  • "What?" Mandy blinked, startled.
  • Lawrence continued smoothly, "Whitney already told me everything. I know your company is short 750 thousand in cash flow. I happen to have some project funds available for investment. All you need to do is have lunch with me, and the money's yours."
  • "Are you serious?" Mandy asked, unable to hide her surprise.
  • Lawrence nodded confidently. "I never joke about business."
  • Mandy hesitated for a moment, weighing her options.
  • "Alright," she finally agreed, feeling like she had no other choice.
  • Without that investment, her company would likely go bankrupt.
  • "Great. Let's find a place and discuss the project. We can also talk about where to go for lunch ... " Lawrence said.
  • "Wait, Mandy! You can't go with him!" Oscar suddenly snapped, glaring at Lawrence. "I'm warning you, Lawrence, stay away from my wife!"
  • Lawrence's lips curled into a mocking grin. "Is this something a useless live-in son-in-law like you could decide? Afraid I'm going to steal her from you?
  • "I'll be honest with you—if I did, it'd be an honor for you.
  • "You should be grateful.
  • "You really think you can change how the world works, you pathetic loser?"
  • "I—" Oscar wanted to retort.
  • But before he could say anything, Mandy stepped out of the elevator and looked at him coldly. "Oscar, stop making a scene."
  • "What did I do?" Oscar was stunned.
  • "Do you even realize how important this investment is for my company?" Mandy asked with clear disappointment. If Oscar could provide for her, she wouldn't have to go through this at all.
  • She let out a sigh, then turned to Lawrence, following him out of the lobby and into his BMW sports car.
  • "Wait, Honey!" Oscar ran after her, desperation in his voice. "I'll get you the 750 thousand dollars! I can give you the money!"
  • Mandy shook her head, clearly not believing him. "Oscar, you need to stop dreaming. If you really want to help, go find a job."
  • "But—" Oscar tried to argue.
  • Lawrence came over and patted Oscar on the back. "You know what, Oscar, we're hiring at Dalton Investment. How about a job as a janitor? I could give you fifteen hundred a month. And since it's for Mandy's sake, I'll throw in a three hundred bonus. Dalton Investment is under the Dalton Group. You're going to have a chance to work in a big company. Chances like this don't always come by."
  • Oscar slapped away Lawrence's hand, glaring at him. "I don't need your help."
  • "Oh, look at you, acting all tough now." Lawrence chuckled as he opened the car door and slid in.
  • "Honey, don't go with him. I can get you the 750 thousand dollars!" Oscar shouted one last time, desperately hoping she would listen.
  • However, Mandy ignored him.
  • "Stop it, Oscar.
  • "You think you can help Mandy? Do you have 750 thousand? Do you even know the CEO of Dalton Investment Company?
  • "You should start thinking about where you're going to beg for food after getting kicked out of the Prestons ... Hahaha!" Lawrence rolled down the car window, a look of contempt on his face.
  • Oscar shouted angrily, "Lawrence, so what if you're rich?"
  • "Being rich is great. Your wife followed me around with just one word.
  • "She'll do whatever I tell her to, including divorcing you.
  • "Hahaha ... "
  • As Lawrence drove away, Oscar stood at the entrance of the company, looking utterly devastated.
  • "A mere manager at Dalton Investment Company can make my wife get in his car and leave me?
  • "Dalton Investment Company ... It's just one of many companies under the Dalton Group. It's nothing!"
  • While speaking, Oscar took out his old phone and dialed the number Edmund had left him.
  • "It's me. I'll help the Daltons, but there are two conditions.
  • "First, Dalton Investment Company belongs to me from now on!
  • "Second, arrange for a batch of the finest Morsenspir roses, and deliver them to the Prestons Advertising Company in the way girls love most!"
  • "Mr. Oscar, I'll report to the patriarch immediately! Please wait ... "
  • "Stop wasting time. If you're a second late, I'll make sure the Daltons go bankrupt!"
