Chapter 12 The Prestons' Ambition

  • "Hmm?" Oscar was surprised, momentarily forgetting the steak in his mouth. He had no idea what she was talking about.
  • Skylar, noticing his starving look, felt even more annoyed. She said coldly, "Lawrence has officially proposed to our family. He'll send the betrothal gifts tonight. You'd better stay out of trouble. If not ... "
  • She smirked. Even though the Prestons were engaged in legitimate business, they still had some bodyguards. If this useless fool caused trouble, they could easily handle him.
  • "Alright, everyone, please settle down. Mr. Norman has an announcement!"
  • Norman, sitting at the head of the table, tapped it to get attention, his face beaming with anticipation. "You've probably heard by now—Dalton Investment Company has suddenly changed its CEO. The new CEO has canceled all previous investment plans and added an extra 750 million for new projects.
  • "I don't know who this new CEO is, but this change could be a big opportunity for us!
  • "Many families and companies in Wavecrest have been shaken by this. It's a major reshuffle.
  • "While the Prestons have been considered wealthy, we're still only a second-tier family. To increase our influence in Wavecrest and advance further, we need more than our current standing.
  • "If we want to become a first-tier family or even a top-tier family with influence in Ashenwick, we can't let this chance slip by!
  • "Cooperating with Dalton Investment Company and securing a share of this 750 million could put us at the top in Wavecrest!"
  • After Norman finished, the Prestons exchanged silent glances.
  • Working with Dalton Investment Company and the new CEO was a huge opportunity.
  • Everyone, including the Prestons, would want to be part of it.
  • But the company was backed by the Daltons in Ashenwick. For a second-tier family like the Prestons, this chance seemed far-fetched.
  • Seeing the lack of response, Norman grew stern. "Why not speak? You all get excited about profits, but when it's time to act, you all hesitate! You useless bunch!"
  • Steven Preston, Norman's eldest son, and also Mandy's uncle, spoke up, "Dad, what you're suggesting is great, but we haven't been able to get in touch with Dalton Investment Company for years. With the new CEO now, it won't be simple."
  • Norman shot him a cold look. "If it were easy, I would've handled it myself. I wouldn't need to discuss it with you."
  • Suddenly, Harvey's eyes lit up. He stood up and said, "Grandpa, Lawrence Davidson works in Dalton Investment Company. He should know who the new CEO is and could help us secure this investment.
  • "He proposed to Mandy, didn't he? If we marry Mandy to him, we'll be family. We might not get the full 750 million, but even a fraction could make us wealthy!"
  • "Lawrence Davidson?" Norman considered this and nodded thoughtfully. To be honest, he was quite satisfied with Lawrence.
  • With this thought, he turned to Mandy and said firmly, "Mandy, Lawrence is deeply in love with you, and our family needs his support. You should marry him."
  • Mandy was stunned, unsure of what to say. Was Norman forcing her to divorce? But ...
  • Before she could respond, the Prestons started voicing their opinions.
  • "Mandy, we need this investment!"
  • "Without it, our family might face financial ruin!"
  • "This is a chance to rid yourself of your useless husband. You need to take it!"
  • "By marrying Lawrence, you'll bring investment to our family and gain a rich, handsome husband. It's a blessing in disguise!"
  • The Prestons all got up and began making a fuss. They saw this as the best way to secure the investment.
  • Lawrence was said to hold a significant position at Dalton Investment Company. If he helped the Prestons, their success would be nearly assured.
  • With this money, the Prestons could advance significantly!
  • At this moment, Lillian stood up and said, "What a coincidence. Lawrence called me yesterday, saying he wanted to visit and make an announcement. I've already invited him to tonight's dinner."
  • "Really?" Norman stood up excitedly. "Invite him right away!"
  • Seeing his excitement, Lillian felt a wave of relief. It seemed she had made the right move. Her daughter could finally be rid of her useless husband, and they could enjoy wealth and status. She felt fortunate indeed!
  • Just then, the lights in the hall dimmed, and the entrance was lit up. A well-dressed figure walked in.
