Chapter 10 Anything
- Oscar saw the young woman and recognized her at once. Emma Warren. She had worked with him when he was with the Daltons. He hadn't expected her to be the executive secretary at Dalton Investment Company.
- "It's been a while," Oscar said, giving a small nod.
- "Ms. Warren, are you mixed up?" Whitney stepped forward, her pretty face showing anger. "We all know who the CEO is. You can't just call out any loser who's living off others!"
- "A loser?" Emma glanced at Oscar. Seeing his calm expression, she turned her gaze back to Whitney. "Ms. Logan, take a good look. From today on, this is our new CEO, Mr. Oscar Dalton."
- "What!?" the people around them gasped in shock.
- Even the head of security seemed rattled.
- I just told the CEO to piss off?
- "Impossible! It can't be!" Whitney's lips tightened. "This person is called Oscar, yes, but I know him from college. I know what he does for a living. How could he be our CEO?"
- Whitney felt everything around her start to fade.
- How could a CEO be a live-in son-in-law?
- How could a CEO dress like that for work?
- And hadn't he just been exposed as a scammer at the Platinum Hotel?
- Even in fine clothes, he doesn't look like a leader.
- "It's not for you, a lowly employee, to decide who the CEO is," Emma said coldly.
- She emphasized 'lowly employee' sharply.
- Rumor had it that Whitney was about to be promoted. Many had been trying to get close to her, but now ...
- Whitney's mind went blank. Her once-beautiful face turned pale, and she felt her legs growing weak. She couldn't bring herself to look at Oscar.
- Even with her success and connections at Dalton Investment Company, and her expected promotion ...
- Mocking the CEO of the company meant it could all go up in smoke.
- "Mr. Dalton, I didn't mean it ... " Whitney stammered as she approached Oscar.
- Oscar ignored her and stepped into the executive elevator, leaving Whitney behind, trembling and speechless.
- A swarm of employees trailed behind Oscar, their whispers filling the air.
- Dalton Investment Company was vast, with nearly five thousand workers.
- Only a few had known about the CEO's change, but now, the news had spread throughout the company.
- ...
- The CEO's office occupied the top floor, a full level dedicated to it. It had been arranged overnight to match Oscar's tastes.
- He settled into the large, leather chair, taking in the view of the room. The Daltons had clearly spared no effort to get everything perfect. For one and a half billion dollars, it was only fitting.
- In the room were Oscar, Emma, and Whitney, who stood to the side, visibly anxious.
- Emma set a stack of documents before Oscar. "Mr. Dalton, these are the files you need. Starting today, the company is under your control."
- Oscar glanced through the papers, ensuring everything was in order before signing.
- Emma handed him another folder. "This contains last year's major projects, recent investment proposals, and names for potential promotions. Please review them."
- "There's no need," Oscar replied. "Cancel all the planned investments. Notify the partners about the new CEO." That simple decision sealed the fate of many families in Wavecrest.
- "Also, announce that the company will inject seven and a half billion dollars into the top projects in Wavecrest.
- "Hold off on promotions until I've had a chance to meet everyone."
- "Yes, sir!" Emma responded quickly and left the office.
- Whitney, standing in the corner, felt as though her world had crumbled.
- Oscar's brief instructions had not only scrapped the projects she had worked on but also put her promotion in jeopardy. All her recent efforts seemed to have been for nothing, and she feared losing her job.
- With her mind racing over her large car payments and mortgage, Whitney felt overwhelmed.
- She found the courage to speak, her voice barely audible. "Mr. Dalton, I didn't mean to cause any trouble ... For old times' sake, please don't fire me. I'm willing to do whatever you need."
- "Whatever I need?" Oscar chuckled, taking a moment to appraise Whitney. "Then tell me, what do you think I should do with you?"
