Chapter 6 Love Rival
- The moment Serena heard the other person's terms, her expression changed.
- She lamented inwardly, How could our family possibly fork out five million now? But without the money, Vivian is going to be gang-raped! We can't just stand by and do nothing, can we? Why are the women in our family so unfortunate? I'll be someone else's sex slave soon, and while that isn't a big deal since I've already decided to end my life after the family obtains the loan, I've got to at least keep Vivian safe!
- As Serena and Theresa fretted, Eric interjected, “Let's go and check the situation out first. We aren't sure who the other person is yet. He might only be scaring us. Besides, I've got two million, no? It can be used as a deposit first.”
- Theresa glanced at him without saying anything.
- Serena, on the other hand, had a complex look in her eyes. The two million is compensation I fought for him. Without it, he might have to return to a life of homelessness for the rest of his life.
- Eric gave her a slight nod and urged, “Don't hesitate anymore, Serena. Vivian's safety takes precedence!”
- In the end, Serena shook her head and turned his proposal down.
- My death is already imminent. There's no need for me to drag him down with me.
- “I'll ask someone else for help.” While saying that, she unlocked her phone and made a call. “Can you do me a favor, Victor?”
- When Eric learned that the person she sought out was actually Victor, his expression stiffened.
- Victor Carnap was once one of Serena's suitors, and the Carnap family was also more prominent than the Groff family.
- Unlike the Groff family, Victor was the only heir of the Carnap family. For that reason, his wealth superseded that of Andres and the others.
- That also gave him the confidence to navigate the elite society and allowed him to make the acquaintance of many people in that circle.
- However, he was a typical womanizer, changing women as though changing clothes. Despite having been rejected by Serena, he did not give up, but continued to harass her from time to time.
- Serena was only asking him for help because she had no other choice.
- Unlike the attitude she adopted with Eric, Theresa had a good impression of Victor and felt that the man was her ideal son-in-law.
- As for the fact that he was a womanizer, she felt that it was the nature of all men.
- Serena briefly explained the chain of events to Victor before hanging up the phone.
- Theresa gazed at her hopefully. “You're still in contact with Victor, Serena? What did he say?”
- Serena put the phone down, the crease of her brows easing slightly. “He said he knows some people at Sequoia Bar who can help to intercede for us. He's already on his way there. Let's make a move as well.”
- Eric studied her with a complex expression on his face.
- I could've resolved the issue with Vivian. Why did she have to seek Victor out? Is she not aware of his ulterior motives toward her?
- Worried that Victor might do something untoward, he also got into Serena's car.
- Serena pretended not to see him, tacitly allowing him to tag along.
- Theresa likewise knew that having another person would mean more confidence. Hence, she did not comment on his presence.
- Soon, the three of them arrived at Sequoia Bar.
- After waiting for a while, they heard the roar of an engine. A Rolls-Royce screeched to a stop beside them before the car door swung open, and Victor climbed out of the vehicle.
- He had deliberately dressed up before heading to the location, gelling his hair and changing into an expensive suit he only wore when attending important events.
- His striking appearance frequently turned the heads of girls passing by outside the bar.
- Theresa greeted him with a bright smile on her face. “I'm so glad you came, Victor!”
- “Don't mention it, Mdm. Theresa. As long as Serena needs me, I'll rush over immediately, even if it's to the ends of the world!” Victor replied gentlemanly.
- As he spoke, he looked at Serena lovingly.
- A touch discomfited by his stare, Serena lowered her head.
- Jealousy inundated Eric, and he moved in front of Serena to shield her.
- Seeing that, Victor was not at all perturbed. He flashed the man a provocative smile before saying to Theresa, “I've understood the general situation from Serena on the phone. No matter who Vivian fought with, the matter will definitely be resolved with me mediating things!”
- Overjoyed, Theresa gushed, “Thank you so much, Victor!”
- Similarly, a grateful smile bloomed on Serena's face.
- Abruptly changing the subject, Victor murmured, “However, I hope that Serena can give me a chance to have dinner with her after Vivian has been saved.”
- At his request, Eric's expression darkened. He wanted to object, but Theresa agreed on Serena's behalf. “But of course! She'll have no problems with it since you've helped us so much, Victor!”
- Having no other choice, Serena could only respond with a nod of assent.
- Victor grinned triumphantly, plotting something or other inwardly. He beckoned everyone and led the way into the bar.
- Although Eric was upset, he could only follow them in.
- Yet, as soon as he stepped into the bar, he caught a whiff of a unique scent.
- Hmm? A werewolf's scent?
