Chapter 1 Buy Me

  • "Are you Janet? My Daughter?"
  • The girl standing before them was wearing a linen shirt and black pants. It was utterly soiled by mud. Even though there was no unpleasant odor wafting off her, her appearance alone made it difficult for anyone to curl their lips into a smile.
  • This was especially hard for Brian Jackson and Megan Davis to accept.
  • They didn't want to believe that this was their biological daughter. The same daughter who had been missing for eighteen years.
  • A month ago, Brian and Megan Davis unexpectedly found their daughter Emily was Blood Type O, but they were both Blood Type AB. It was impossible for them to have given birth to a child with Blood Type O.
  • After a series of investigations, it turned out that the trainee nurse in the hospital at that time made a blunder and labeled their names wrongly.
  • But this girl named Janet Jackson is too countrified.
  • The investigated information flashed through Megan's mind. Janet Jackson, 18 years old, junior high school graduate, mediocre student who is always playing truant. Later, she went missing for three years.
  • Nobody knew where she was during those three years. There were horrible rumors claiming that she ran away with an old man. I just can't imagine such an awful girl is my biological daughter.
  • Janet stood calmly under the scan of her biological parents. Her gaze was hollow.
  • She was not fool, aware that she was looked down upon by them from their eyes. Even the butler who took her here despised her.
  • "Are you still trying to adapt since you just got home?" Brian made Janet sit down and poured her a glass of water.
  • Janet responded with a faint smile. "I'm fine."
  • Brian nodded. "That's good. As parents, we've owed you. From now on, you should live in the Jackson residence, and we will look after you."
  • We owe Janet too much, and from now on, we have to make it up to her gradually.
  • After that, he placed the present in front of Janet while speaking to her calmly, "Janet, this is a gift for you since we are meeting for the first time as father and daughter. Have a look."
  • Janet's large, round eyes glanced at the exquisite gift box. Then, she unwrapped the bag outside slowly and realized that it was a beautifully-crafted Louis Vuitton necklace.
  • Emily was silent on the side, with a trace of jealousy flashing through her eyes. The necklace was what she always wanted, but Brian gave it to Janet. Emily thought herself no longer the only baby in the family.
  • Brian asked while sounding sincere, "What do you think?"
  • Janet's pink lips curled into a smile, and she answered with a light and distant tone, "Thank you."
  • "We are family, so don't mention it." Brian smiled kindly at her.
  • "Emily, take your sister upstairs to her room."
  • "Okay, Dad," Emily responded and smiled friendly at Janet. "Come on, Janet."
  • Janet nodded and followed her upstairs.
  • Brian's brow furrowed as soon as she left before turning to look at Megan. "Did you see the necklace on her neck?"
  • "I did. It looks a lot like the latest auction piece from Markovia, priced around ten figures."
  • Megan's expression was also far from pleasant. "I never expected her to be so vain. She bought a fake to show off because she had no decent accessories. If people find out the young lady of the Jackson Family is flaunting fake goods, I might as well kill myself right now out of sheer embarrassment."
  • The necklace was auctioned for 1.5 billion at the time. So far, the buyer's identity still remained a mystery.
  • It was said that a big shot from Markovia had snapped it up.
  • So, how could it possibly be in Janet's possession?
  • Brian nodded and sighed. "This is partly our fault. If she had grown up with us, maybe she wouldn't be like this. Still, now that she's here, she would need a firm hand to guide her on the right path. We can't allow her to go down such tacky roads."
  • "I understand," Megan replied as she swallowed a sigh. Janet was far from her idea of the perfect daughter.
  • Emily led Janet to the bedroom, and the kind smile immediately vanished from her face.
  • "Janet, I warn you to behave. Don't think that you can get your way in this house just because you're our parents' biological daughter! Mom said that even though you're back, I'll always be her daughter because I'm better than you!"
  • She pulled her lips back into a sneer. "You probably don't know yet, but Mom has arranged for you to attend school with me. It's the best private school in Sandfort City"
  • Janet lifted her eyes and glanced at Emily indifferently. "So?"
  • "I heard you didn't even finish middle school. You should tell Mom you'd rather not attend if you don't want to embarrass yourself!"
  • Janet smiled blandly. It was a clear sign of refusal.
  • Emily's expression twisted. "Fine! Just you wait. I'll make sure you regret it once we're at school!"
  • Emily left with her head held high after that parting retort.
  • She would never let this country bumpkin snatch her parents' affection.
  • The next day, Janet found that her parents and Emily were not at home when she came downstairs. Maya promptly informed her they had gone out for a meal.
  • "Sorry, Miss Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson said you should rest well at home since you've just arrived."
  • Although Maya apologized, her attitude was far from respectful.
  • Janet's eyes flashed with a trace of mockery.
  • Rest? They obviously didn't want her to embarrass them by going out.
  • "I understand."
  • Janet said nothing more and left the house.
  • She had made plans with a friend to attend an auction.
  • The auction had started by the time she arrived.
  • Upon noticing her arrival, Lee exclaimed in excitement, "Janet. You finally come. I miss you so much!"
  • "When does the auction for the mysteries treasure you mentioned begin?"
  • "Soon, I guess; most probably in another half an hour," Lee rubbed his chin while answering with a smile.
  • Janet leaned against the back of her chair. She crossed her legs while observing her surroundings lazily.
  • True enough, auctions in big cities are lively.
  • Lee glanced at Janet, who was busy observing her surroundings. Who would believe that this girl is an actual big player? She is skilled at medicine, painting, hacking and even car racing.
  • "The next item is the main item for tonight's auction." The host's voice boomed and reverberated throughout the auction site.
  • Janet looked up and squinted her dark eyes instinctively.
  • Clap, clap! The host clapped twice.
  • The surrounding lights were turned off, and they were left with a dim light right in front of the hall that was cast on the middle of the raised platform. An additional black cage appeared somewhere along the line, and someone was trapped in the cage.
  • It was a man, and he immediately caught Janet's attention.
  • The person was leaning against the side of the cage, and his side profile, which was illuminated by the light, was almost perfect. He looked naturally sensual and stunning, and he was exuding an inexplicable seductive aura.
  • His good looks were hard to come by!
  • The man in the cage seemed to have noticed Janet among the crowd of hundreds of people. He looked over at her, and his thin lips parted. He spoke almost inaudibly, "Buy me!"
