Chapter 2 Long Time No See, My Ex-Wife
- Ex-wife?! Nora froze, her eyes widening in shock as she saw the man reclining on the sofa. She mused, What’s he doing here? This is a nightmare.
- The man's striking figure was mostly hidden in shadows. His legs were casually crossed while he swirled a glass of red wine. His eyes gleamed with a dark, dangerous intensity.
- "It's been five years. How'd you end up here? It looks like life's been tough for you, my ex-Mrs. Dawson," His voice dripped with sarcasm.
- Embarrassment flooded Nora. She got up awkwardly, trying to hide the ridiculous waiter's uniform she had on. Why did this have to happen now? she wondered.
- With bodyguards at the door, Nora felt trapped and thus kept silent. However, her silence seemed to annoy him.
- Annoyed, he put down his wine glass and came closer. "Did you forget about me?" he asked, towering over her.
- His strikingly handsome face became apparent as he stepped out of the shadows. His unbuttoned black silk shirt added to his relaxed yet commanding demeanor. With a strong nose, slim red lips, and eyes that flickered with a mix of amusement and danger, he had an aura of hidden power.
- This was Jordan Dawson, Nora's ex-husband, the man who ran the Dawson Family.
- Holding her breath, Nora stared at him with a racing heart. She thought they’d never meet again after their divorce five years ago, especially not like this.
- "You should've forgotten about me by now, Jordan." Nora tried to keep her calm, but his intense gaze made her feel totally exposed.
- Jordan laughed, leaning in to gently lift her chin with his delicate hands. "With a face like yours, how could I forget?"
- Even without makeup, Nora's skin was flawless, and her eyes sparkled. His eyes wandered down her neck to the lace fabric on her chest, hinting at her cleavage. Her short skirt barely covered her, showing off her smooth and fair legs.
- Jordan couldn't lie; he'd married Nora for her beauty. Shannon wanted him to marry the daughter of the Price Family, but he'd stuck to the arranged marriage between the Dawson and Clarke families, even though his family wasn't thrilled about it.
- After they got married, Nora was obedient and kind of boring. She was just a pretty decoration by Jordan's side, keeping him safe from betrayal. Still, she had the guts to ask for a divorce and run off with another guy.
- "Jordan, you can have any woman you want. I'm not worth it. Please, just let me go," Nora stated. Her back tensed as she felt his strong presence, making her heart race like never before. She didn't want to dig up old wounds; she just wanted to break free from the Dawson Family.
- "Let you go? Nora, I told you to behave after we married, but you betrayed me. Did you ever think about what would happen? How could I let you go? No matter where you run, I'll find you. You'll pay for what you did," Jordan replied; his smile had a dangerous edge.
- Just as I thought, the Dawson Family is after me. Maybe they took my baby back then as revenge, Nora thought aloud, fear flickering in her eyes. Jordan is out for payback, and the Clarke Family will get caught in the mess. I need to keep my two kids safe from the looming danger.
- "Why do you keep bothering me after our divorce? I have nothing to do with you anymore!" Nora shot back.
- Jordan replied firmly, "It's not up to you to decide what concerns you. Now that I've got you, figure out how you're going to apologize to me. If you try to run again, I'll lock you up."
- "I'm sorry. Jordan, please forgive me," Nora pleaded, pretending to feel sorry but actually glancing around to assess her surroundings.
- Jordan frowned a bit. He remembered Nora as timid and unremarkable. "Come with me quietly. The more you resist, the worse it'll be for you," he warned.
- Releasing her hand, he walked purposefully ahead and thought, The wine's a letdown tonight, but this could still pay off.
- Nora bided her time as she trailed Jordan, watching for the perfect moment. Suddenly, she sprinted towards the balcony, quickly locking the glass door behind her. With a deep breath, she leaped into the pool below, holding her breath as she plunged into the water.
- Jordan turned just in time to see Nora's determined dive. His heart raced as he hurried closer. Meanwhile, his bodyguards struggled to unlock the balcony glass or catch her.
- Despite the cold, Nora didn't think twice about jumping from the second floor into the pool below.
- As Jordan watched Nora emerge from the water, a smile crept onto his face. He realized at that moment, She's dropped that weak act. Hmm... Interesting...
- The 52nd-floor bar had a fantastic view of the city at night, but Nora stole the show. "Close the bar. Don't let my ex-wife slip away," Jordan ordered.
- "Got it, Mr. Jordan," his bodyguard replied promptly.
- Meanwhile, soaking wet from the pool, Nora grabbed everyone's attention—no one else was brave enough to swim in that weather. Despite the cold, she wrapped herself in a nearby towel and quietly slipped away while the bar bustled and Jordan's bodyguards closed in.
- The thought of Jordan catching her was something Nora didn't even want to entertain.
- Later that night, Nora went home looking a mess, which stunned Hudson and Julia.
- "Mommy, what's wrong? Weren't you supposed to have an important meeting? Who upset you?" Hudson, the only boy in the family, fearlessly offered to protect his mother.
- "It's nothing, sweetie. I just fell into the pool," Nora replied, keeping the threat from her ex-husband to herself while musing, Luckily, I taught the kids to swim.
- Nora kept her past hidden from her kids, wanting to shield them from questions about their father and any doubts about their roots.
- "Oh, Hudson, my phone got wet," she added.
- "I'll fix it for you tomorrow," Hudson promised.
- Having a tech-savvy son is a lifesaver, Nora thought.
- Meanwhile, Julia hurried with fresh clothes for her and urged, "Mommy, take a quick shower so you don't catch a cold."
- "Thanks, sweetie," Nora responded, taking a hot shower. When she came out, a cup of hot ginger tea awaited her.
- Seeing Hudson and Julia in their pajamas, fresh from their baths, Nora knew they weren't going anywhere—they were eagerly waiting for her.
- Nora suggested, "Still not used to the new house? How about you two sleep with me tonight?"
- "Sounds great!" Without hesitation, the kids climbed into bed. They smiled as they nestled on either side of their mother.
- Nora held them close and thought, These two are my everything. I'll always keep them safe.
- Just then, Hudson held the iPad and told Nora, "Mommy, all the recent emails are from Dr. Jenkins asking about Luna."
- Luna was Nora's other name. Nora'd been a pharmacist since childhood, learning alongside her mother in the countryside and possessing a natural talent for pharmaceuticals. She'd been creating medicines for the wealthy for the past five years based on her skills. Despite others calling her greedy, she never felt the need to explain herself.
- The email read, 'Dr. Luna, the Dawson Family needs special medicine at this time. Please give your price and contact me.'
- Could it really be the Dawson Family? Maybe even Jordan? Nora pondered with a furrowed brow as she drafted a reply.
- The next day, in the CEO's office on the 68th floor of the Dominion Group.
- Luca Jenkins, with silver-framed glasses, entered. As the Dawson Family's personal physician, he addressed Jordan directly, "Dr. Luna got back to me. She declined, even after I mentioned it was for the Dawson Family."
- Jordan's brow deeply furrowed as he lifted his gaze to meet Luca's. "Refused the Dawson Family? Not happy with the price?"
