• I DIDN'T bother knocking as I strode into Jordan's office, Abigeal following behind me. “We have a problem.” I said curtly, then stopped short.
• Melanie was standing at Jordan's desk and turned to look at me over her shoulder. She smiled. “Hi, Blaine. I haven't seen you in a while.” I swallowed and forced a bright smile. “Mel, hey.” I crossed the room to hug her, trying hard not to breathe in her scent or to be too aware of her hands on my back.
