• "Ah!!" Maddy let out another piercing scream as the heavy club struck her hand. Though it hadn't shattered the bones, the sheer force of the blow split her skin open, sending blood splattering onto the floor. The pain was so excruciating that she nearly blacked out.
• "You b*stard, Joshua! I'll tear you apart!" she shrieked, her voice hoarse with rage and agony. "You won't get away with this! I swear, I'll never forgive you!"
• "Forgive me?" Joshua let out a low, mocking laugh, his expression filled with scorn. "Maddy, do you honestly think I give a d*mn about your forgiveness? Do you really believe I'd ever let you go after everything you've done to me?" His gaze darkened, his voice dropping into something colder, more menacing. "No. Let me make one thing clear. You should be grateful that Michael is outside right now, keeping watch. But if I really wanted you dead, there are countless ways to make it happen."
