Chapter 10 Conflict

  • The team leader sighed. He realized there was no way to avoid this situation. He could only apologize repeatedly before heading to the kitchen to call Anne.
  • After helping with the soup, Giovanni returned.
  • It was getting late. Anne finished her tasks. She packed up some leftover food from the kitchen and was ready to leave.
  • Carrying her takeout box, Anne was about to exit the restaurant when ...
  • "Anne!"
  • Suddenly, someone called her from behind.
  • Stunned, Anne turned to see who it was. Just then, a woman, too engrossed in her phone to watch where she was going, bumped into her.
  • The collision caused Anne's takeout bag to rip open, spilling dark-colored sauce onto the woman's light-colored dress.
  • "Urghh!" The woman screamed. She stepped back and looked at the stain on her dress. Furious, she pointed at Anne and yelled, "Are you blind? Watch where you're going!"
  • Anne forgot about the person calling her and immediately set down her bag. She pulled out a handkerchief to clean the woman's dress and said, "I'm so sorry, miss. I didn't mean to ... I'll get your dress cleaned!"
  • "Clean it? This is a Chanel haute couture dress! It can't be wiped or washed!" The woman pushed Anne away and scolded angrily, "You idiot, you got sauce all over it! I'm furious! You need to pay for this dress! It costs twenty thousand!"
  • Anne's face went pale. She stammered, "T-Twenty thousand?"
  • She didn't have that kind of money.
  • The woman wouldn't let it go. When she spotted the restaurant manager approaching, she arrogantly pointed at Anne and said, "Manager Harper, I'm a VIP customer here. This is the first time something like this has happened. Look at my dress! Your restaurant needs to compensate me!"
  • Not wanting to offend a VIP customer, the manager repeatedly apologized to the woman. Then he turned to Anne and shouted, "What is wrong with you? You've only been here a few days, and you're already making mistakes. How could you dirty Ms. Gordon's dress? Who told you to carry leftovers around? You're fired. Don't come back tomorrow!"
  • "I ... " Anne bit her lip, feeling a tight knot in her chest. It wasn't her fault!
  • The woman, Hope Gordon, took a step forward. She refused. "No, firing her is too easy on her."
  • The manager was desperate to appease her. He asked fawningly, "What else do you want us to do?"
  • "She needs to pay for my dress, and ... " Hope looked at Anne and sneered. "After making me go through such a disgusting incident, shouldn't she bow and apologize?"
  • Anne's eyes widened in disbelief. She looked at that woman in bewilderment.
  • Hope had bumped into her, blamed her for the dress, demanded compensation, and now she wanted Anne to kneel and apologize? This was too much!
  • The team leader was initially following Cole's order to call Anne out; he hadn't expected this incident.
  • When he saw Anne caught in this mess, he nervously pointed her out to Cole and said, "Mr. Cole, she's the one who made the soup!"
  • Cole's sharp, hawk-like eyes focused on Anne. It was her!
  • He stood up and walked towards Anne.
  • Hope grew impatient as Anne stood motionless and received no response. She chided, "Why are you just standing there? Did I wrong you? Hurry up and pay for the dress, then bow and apologize to me. Do you think you can afford to waste my time?"
  • As a result, she shoved Anne hard.
  • Anne stumbled, and just then ...
