Chapter 10 Ill-Intended Praising

  • At that, Gunther followed with a snide remark, saying, "Sienna, you're mistaken. Since Grandma has already promised Giselle to Dominic, she's now part of the Lyon Family. Even when Dominic's gone mad, we can't break the engagement. Giselle should still marry the lunatic!"
  • Gunther, still sore from the kick he received from Roman the day before, harbored a deep resentment toward him, which naturally extended to Giselle, prompting him to join in mocking her alongside Sienna.
  • "Yes, Gunther, you're absolutely right. Giselle should marry the lunatic. Her ex-husband was a useless loser, and now her fiance's a madman. It's almost comical to think about!" Sienna chimed in, giggling with her hand over her mouth.
  • Gunther and Sienna's words made Giselle turn grim. There was no way she would marry a lunatic!
  • Of course, the pair of cousins knew their jeer would simply be impossible. Still, it didn't stop them from wanting to humiliate their youngest cousin in public.
  • Meanwhile, Napoleon parted his lips, wanting to defend his daughter, but ultimately, he said nothing.
  • On the other hand, Giselle's uncles, Alexander and Julius Chaplin, smirked at her, joining in the mockery.
  • "Enough, both of you!" Florence suddenly interjected, shutting up Gunther and Sienna.
  • "Enough of this nonsense. Since Mr. Lyon from Evergrain Enterprises has died and Dominic is now insane, he's no longer of any use. It's out of the question for Giselle to marry him. Moreover, Evergrain Enterprises has merged with Christopher & Co., so the Lyons are no longer relevant. What's the point of mentioning them? Now, the priority is to devise another plan to rescue our family business. Do any of you have any suggestions?"
  • Alas, everyone instantly fell silent and stepped back. They were good at stirring up trouble but utterly useless regarding serious matters.
  • Florence's gaze swept over her progenies before finally settling on her eldest. "Alexander, as the CEO, what do you suggest?"
  • "Well, Mom, I…" Alexander stood up, stuttering. "I think the main issue we're facing is the lack of orders and poor cash flow. If someone could provide us with some orders, it would save us!"
  • "Do you not think that's blatantly obvious?! I'm asking you how to solve it!" Florence glared at Alexander, speaking coldly.
  • "Well, Mom, since Christopher & Co. has changed presidents, we could try contacting Miss Ivory of Christopher & Co. and ask for some orders. That way, we could turn things around," Alexander said.
  • "Grandma, Dad has a point. The previous head of Christopher & Co. was Christopher, who was difficult to deal with, but now it's Miss Ivory, who is said to be more accommodating. We could try reaching out to her," Gunther echoed.
  • "Yes, you both make valid points. So, who's going to do it?" Florence continued to inquire.
  • Once again, the members of the Chaplin Family all took a step back. Even Gunther, who usually liked to take the lead, remained silent.
  • Seeing everyone's reaction, Florence turned grim, but just then, Sienna stood up and stated, "Grandma, as far as I know, Giselle is classmates with Celeste Ivory, the new CEO of Christopher & Co. And they were both campus beauties, known as the Gorgeous Duo. So, why not let Giselle approach Miss Ivory and secure the orders?"
  • Instantly, Giselle's face turned pale. She and Celeste were indeed classmates, but they didn't get along. They had been rivals since high school, and now, with Sienna's recommendation, how could Giselle bring herself to do it?! She had her pride, after all.
  • Florence's gaze locked onto Giselle directly. "Giselle, were you classmates with Miss Ivory of Christopher & Co.?"
  • "Yes, Grandma," Giselle replied.
  • "Excellent! Since you two were classmates, you shall be the one to negotiate," Florence decided.
  • "Grandma, you're brilliant! With Giselle's relationship with Miss Ivory, she'll definitely bring us orders worth not just five million but 20!" Sienna praised, not giving Giselle a chance to refuse.
  • In fact, her eyes showed cunningness; she was intentionally building up Giselle. She knew the two girls weren't on the best terms, and with both being campus beauties, they were like water and fire. Celeste would never give Giselle any orders. She said so just to raise Giselle up and make her beg Celeste, embarrassing her. After all, the higher one was raised, the harder one fell!
  • Gunther, seeing Sienna continuously "building up" Giselle, quickly picked up Sienna's intentions. He also stood up and said, "Grandma, Sienna has a point. Since Giselle and Miss Ivory are classmates, their relationship must be good. With Giselle taking charge this time, she'll definitely bring in 20 million for our family business—no, 20 million is too little. I think we should aim for at least 50 million in orders! That would set us up for the year!"
  • Alas, with Gunther's input, the figure changed to 50 million!
  • Florence's eyes lit up at the mention of 50 million. If they could secure that much in the orders, they would be in a strong position. So, she immediately turned to Giselle. Giselle, since Gunther and Sienna have jointly recommended you, you shall undertake this task."
  • "Grandma, I… I have something to say…" Giselle stood up.
  • "What is it?"
  • "Grandma, actually, my relationship with Miss Ivory isn't good. She… She—"
  • "What are you trying to say, Giselle?" Sienna interjected, not letting Giselle speak her mind. "Our family's business is in danger, and you've been entrusted to save our company by all of us, and especially Grandma. How can you lie about not being close to Miss Ivory? Weren't you two known as the Gorgeous Duo back in high school?! You're just making excuses!"
  • "That's right, Giselle! How can you back down when Grandma trusts you to do it, and we're all counting on you? Don't you think you're disappointing Grandma? Be down-to-earth and face difficulties bravely. Besides, you're just contacting your classmate. What's there to be afraid of?" Gunther also lectured Giselle like he was her elder.
  • Gunther and Sienna teamed up to praise Giselle and then further pressured her, causing her face to turn bright red with anger, unable to utter a single word. Their intention was obvious: to put Giselle in a difficult position, ultimately pushing her to her demise.
  • "Grandma, I…" Giselle looked at Florence, attempting to defend herself, but Florence waved her hand dismissively. "Gunther and Sienna are right. Since you're a member of our family, you must face challenges bravely when duty calls. Moreover, this isn't a difficult task for you. I entrust it to you. I hope to see your triumphant return in three days."
  • "Grandma…"
  • "Meeting adjourned!" Florence said coldly, then added, "By the way, since that loser has returned, we must not let him back into our family. Giselle, you should quickly proceed with the divorce procedures!"
  • Giselle clenched her fists tightly, standing there in a daze.
