Chapter 1 The Dead Returns!

  • "Roman, use a bit more strength… Oh, be gentle… I can't take it anymore…"
  • In a lavishly decorated room of a castle somewhere in Helvetia, Perou, a slender young man was giving a voluptuous, charming woman a massage.
  • "Roman, have you really decided to go back?" Zara suddenly turned to the young man and asked.
  • "Yes, Aunt Zara. It's been three years; I have to go back," Roman Liddell said plainly, his eyes showing a sharp glint.
  • "But you don't have to do that. Sending a few guys to Cathay to wipe out those families will do the trick."
  • "Aunt Zara, I think my parents' spirits in heaven would also want me to personally avenge them. Don't you think so too?"
  • Zara fell silent for a long time before saying, "Roman, remember, no matter what happens, I will always stand by you."
  • "Aunt Zara…"
  • "Oh, suck it up! You're already the Lord of Reaper's Temple; don't act like a crybaby. Come, let me hug you!"
  • Three days later, in Cathay, at Riverport's Heaven's Table, the Nebula Lounge was filled with guests, exuding an air of celebration. Here, Florence Chaplin hosted her birthday banquet, surrounded by the Chaplin Family and numerous relatives, her face beaming with joy.
  • Just then, Florence turned to Giselle Chaplin, who was sitting in a corner wearing a long white dress, her figure graceful, and said, "Giselle, the three-year period is up, and that worthless man still hasn't returned. According to the previous agreement, you are to marry the person I have arranged. I think Dominic Lyon from Evergrain Enterprises is a good match, so prepare to marry him."
  • Florence's words left Giselle stupefied, and seemingly oblivious to her distraught, her relatives went up to congratulate her.
  • "Giselle, congratulations! You've finally freed yourself from that loser."
  • "Yes, the old master was really muddle-headed to let that jinx marry into our family four years ago. Fortunately, he went missing, his fate unknown. Otherwise, he would still be pestering you!"
  • "Giselle, once you marry Dominic, you will rise to great heights and live a life of luxury! Don't forget me then!"
  • Giselle's parents were also pleased and repeatedly thanked Florence for making it happen.
  • Four years ago, the Liddells suffered a tragic massacre, and Roman narrowly escaped. Horace Chaplin, the late patriarch of the third-rate Chaplin Family in Riverport, took Roman in, defying all opposition and allowing him to marry into the family as the husband of Giselle Chaplin, reputed to be the most beautiful woman in Riverport.
  • After marrying into the Chaplin Family, Roman worked tirelessly and endured endless scorn and ostracism from the Chaplins. Even Giselle was extremely cold and resistant to him. However, three years ago, Horace passed away suddenly, and Roman also mysteriously disappeared, his whereabouts unknown and his fate uncertain.
  • Instead of searching for him, the Chaplin Family went to great lengths to arrange for Giselle to remarry a wealthy suitor. When she finally had enough of it, she made a pact with her family: regardless of Roman's fate, she would wait for three years. If he still hadn't returned when the time was up, she would comply with the family's arrangement and remarry.
  • Now, the three-year period had ended, and Giselle was at the mercy of others.
  • But just as everyone was congratulating Giselle, the door to the private room suddenly burst open, and a voice rang out, "If you want my wife to remarry, shouldn't you ask her husband's opinion first?"
  • Woosh!
  • As the voice echoed, the room fell silent momentarily before erupting in chaos.
  • "What are you doing back, you loser? Weren't you supposed to be dead?!"
  • "Why come back, you jinx?!"
  • "For f*ck's sake! How dare that jinx return on the old madam's birthday?!"
  • While the Chaplins and their relatives hurled insults, Roman sauntered into the party.
  • Seeing him dressed in a T-shirt and faded jeans, carrying a woven bag on his back, and looking very much like a drifter, the crowd stared at him with disdain and anger.
  • Roman gazed over their ugly faces. Though appearing deadpan, he was actually sneering disdainfully inside.
  • Giselle also stood up abruptly upon seeing him, her gaze wholly complicated when fixed on the approaching man. Roman's gaze, however, was tender as he stood before her, announcing, "Honey, I'm back—"
  • Smack!
  • Roman had barely finished speaking when Giselle slapped him across the face.
  • He touched his slapped cheek, showing no anger. "I deserved that," he said, looking at Giselle with a complex expression.
  • "Yes, you did!" she shouted and stormed off, biting her lip and holding back tears.
  • Roman, not sparing anyone a glance, quickly chased after her, but just as he reached the door, Gunther Chapin, Giselle's eldest cousin, impeded him.
  • "Move!" Roman growled at Gunther.
  • "Who invited you here, Roman?! Today is Grandma's birthday and also the day she arranges for Giselle to remarry. Why didn't you just die out there? Why must you return to mess things up?!" Gunther scolded angrily.
  • "You jinx! Son of a b*tch! Why do you have to come back? Why didn't you just die out there?!" Elowen Yonge, Giselle's mother, too scolded Roman.
  • "I said, move!" Roman repeated, boring into Gunther.
  • "Move my *ss! I'm gonna f*cking kill you!" Gunther yelled, swinging his fist toward Roman. However, before his fist could get close to Roman, a dull thud echoed, followed by a figure flying backward and crashing into a dining table, smashing it to pieces.
  • The one who flew was none other than Gunther, whom Roman glanced icily at before leaving the private room.
  • The banquet hall fell into dead silence as the Chaplins reeled from Roman's behavior. That loser actually hit Gunther! And he booted him down with one kick!
  • After a long silence, Florence's icy voice rang out. "How dare that useless son of a b*tch ruin my party and assault my grandson?! He will pay the price for it!"
  • When Roman left the restaurant, he found Giselle standing by the roadside. His gaze became overflowing with tenderness as he approached his wife. "I knew you would wait for me."
  • "Roman, do you know how much pressure and humiliation I've endured because of you these three years? Do you have any idea what they call me? They call me a widow! Sometimes, I really wished you had died out there and never come back!" Giselle enunciated, biting her lip.
  • Her words plunged Roman into deep silence and self-blame for a long while before he vowed, "Giselle, I know you’ve suffered immensely these three years. I promise you, from this moment on, I will never let you suffer any more grievances. And I will make you proud and honored to have me as your husband!"
  • "You? Huh!" Giselle glanced at Roman's vagabond-like attire, shook her head, and sneered as she started to leave. But in the next second, a Porsche screeched to a halt beside her, and a young man in a silver suit, looking sharp and stylish, got out of the car, smiling. "Giselle, are you already leaving? I had hoped to propose to you at the party!"
  • Meanwhile, Roman's eyes turned icy upon seeing the newcomer.
