Chapter 5 Do You Know Each Other?
- It was at that moment when the door was opened from the outside; Professor Ruan had come home.
- He changed his shoes and went straight into the kitchen without noticing what was happening in the living room.
- Ruan Shishi’s entire body shook when she realized that she had forgotten to tell Yu Yimo after talking to him for so long.
- She moved closer to him and whispered, “President Yu, I…”
- Upon meeting Yu Yimo’s cold gaze, Ruan Shishi realized at once that she had called him wrongly, but there was no way she could call her boss by his name at that very moment.
- So, she could only pretend that she didn’t notice the look in his eyes as she continued, “I haven’t told my parents that we have registered our marriage.”
- Yu Yimo’s face was emotionless upon hearing her words. He simply gave her a slight nod to show that he got what she meant.
- “And—” began Ruan Shishi again. But before she could finish her sentence, Professor Ruan appeared behind her and interrupted her, “Shishi! Are we having a visitor?”
- Ruan Shishi trembled upon hearing his loud and deep voice; she was almost scared out of her wits.
- She turned around and was about to complain to her father when she recalled that Yu Yimo was present, so she could only fake a smile as she said to Professor Ruan, “Welcome home, Dad! You must be tired from work today.”
- Then, she walked grovelingly to his side and took the briefcase in his hand.
- Right when she was about to introduce Yu Yimo to Professor Ruan, he moved past her and walked straight up to Yu Yimo. “Yimo? Why are you here?”
- Yu Yimo stood up, bowed his head slightly to Professor Ruan and greeted, “Good evening, Professor.”
- In contrast to Professor Ruan’s look of excitement, Yu Yimo looked calm and unaffected as usual, as though nothing could stir up any emotions inside him.
- Professor Ruan sat Yu Yimo down and said to Ruan Shishi without raising his head, “Hurry up and take that Tieguanyin tea of mine out.”
- “Do…” Do you know each other?
- Ruan Shishi was dumbfounded at the sight of the scene, but seeing her father acting like he was reuniting with an old buddy, she could tell that she couldn’t interrupt him at all. So, she could only go to take the Tieguanyin tea that Professor Ruan stored privately before entering the kitchen to make the tea.
- “Mom, Dad seems to know Yu… Yu Yimo.” Yu Yimo’s name wasn’t hard to pronounce, but Ruan Shishi still hadn’t gotten used to pronouncing it for the moment.
- Madam Liu, who was deveining some shrimps, stopped what she was doing upon hearing her daughter’s words. She looked toward the entrance and saw Professor Ruan looking happy.
- She turned back and muttered, “They do seem to know each other.”
- Madam Liu didn’t tell Professor Ruan that she had set up a blind date for their daughter. So, when she told Professor Ruan just now that their daughter’s date was here for dinner, she received a scolding from him.
- Now it was great that her daughter’s blind date turned out to be someone that her husband knew.
- The smile on Madam Liu’s face grew brighter at the thought of it.
- Her fondness of Yu Yimo only grew with each second while she observed him ever since he entered their home.
- Yu Yimo looked calm and steady, as well as handsome; such a man was the perfect candidate for a son-in-law in her eyes.
- Madam Liu was walking on air; she began humming a tune to herself while caring nothing about Ruan Shishi’s puzzled look.
- Ruan Shishi could only return to the living room while carrying the cups of tea that she had made.
- Professor Ruan was talking to Yu Yimo about some academic issues. Ruan Shishi didn’t understand what they said at all, so she could only awkwardly pretend like she was an ornament beside them.
- Then, as Professor Ruan got excited while talking, he brought Yu Yimo into his study room and closed the door. Now she could hear nothing.
- Ruan Shishi pouted her lips; she could only go to help her mother in the kitchen.
- After approximately half an hour, the dishes were all cooked and placed on the dining table.
- Now that the dinner was ready, Ruan Shishi knocked on the door to the study room and asked the people inside to come out to have dinner.
- The Ruan Family’s dining table was round, so the atmosphere was usually cheerful and harmonious when the family sat down together.
- But the atmosphere on this day was a bit unusual.
- Perhaps due to Yu Yimo’s elegant aura, what should have been a usual dinner on this night turned into a high-class banquet.
- Ruan Shishi, who was sitting at a side, couldn’t help but straighten her back and put her hands properly on her lap.
- Only then did Professor Ruan introduce Yu Yimo. “Liu, Shishi, Yimo is my favorite pupil whom I have often told both of you about.”
- Ruan Shishi looked at Yu Yimo in astonishment.
- So he was the pupil that her dad had often mentioned—the well-known senior who had won the first place in everything and received countless awards!
- Ruan Shishi immediately deified Yu Yimo inside her heart.
- Madam Liu burst with joy when she heard the news. She had wanted to pick up some dishes for Yu Yimo, but seeing Yu Yimo’s stony face and the dark look in his eyes, she felt a little reserved at once as she was unsure if her actions would be appropriate.
- So, she could only say to Yu Yimo with a smile, “Let’s enjoy the dinner.”
- Upon hearing her words, Yu Yimo gave Madam Liu a nod and said in a flat voice, “Thank you, Madam.”
- Then, he used his chopsticks effortlessly and elegantly like a member of the nobility, making Ruan Shishi—who was inept at using chopsticks—feel very ashamed.
- Ruan Shishi decided that she might as well drink the soup first. So, she stood up and held her bowl when the sharp-eyed Madam Liu noticed the ring on her finger.
- Quick-witted as she was, Madam Liu immediately turned to look at Yu Yimo’s hand and saw—just as she expected—a ring that looked exactly like her daughter’s.
- “Ruan Shishi, that ring of yours…” Madam Liu immediately grabbed Ruan Shishi’s hand before alternating her gaze between Ruan Shishi and Yu Yimo. “Have both of you…?”
- Caught red-handed, Ruan Shishi involuntarily shot Yu Yimo a begging look like a chick that had its lifeline held by somebody else.
- Yu Yimo unhurriedly put the chopsticks in his hand down and placed it properly before slowly raising his head.
- Then, he said in a voice that sounded indifferent yet solemn, “Professor, Madam, Shishi and I have registered our marriage.”
