Chapter 13 Taking Your Wife Away

  • "What are you doing?"
  • Vivian couldn't stop it in time, so she shouted.
  • "Aunt Vivian!"
  • Anya couldn't hold back her tears anymore and ran toward Vivian, crying out.
  • When the little boy saw an adult arrive, he no longer dared to push Anya and quickly tried to run away.
  • But he was in such a rush that, just as he turned around, he slipped and fell with a loud thud.
  • "Waaah … "
  • The boy burst into tears, immediately drawing everyone's attention.
  • Anya was also sobbing uncontrollably, crying as she said, "I'm not a fatherless kid. I have a daddy."
  • Vivian held Anya tightly, her eyes red, and gently patted Anya's back. "Anya isn't a fatherless kid. Anya has a daddy, too."
  • "Gavin!"
  • A middle-aged couple rushed over. Seeing their son had fallen, they were heartbroken. "Don't cry, baby. Who bullied you? Mommy will teach them a lesson."
  • "Mommy, she pushed me! It hurts so bad!"
  • Gavin cried, pointing his chubby finger at Anya.
  • Vivian was furious. She had clearly seen Gavin try to push Anya and then slip on his own. But now he was turning the story around.
  • Before she could even react, Gavin's mother, not caring to figure out what really happened, angrily yelled at Vivian, "Your kid is out of control and has no manners! How dare she hit my son! Do you even know who I am?"
  • Anya, feeling wronged, protested, "I didn't hit him! He tried to hit me, and he called me a fatherless brat!"
  • "So, you're really a child with no proper upbringing! If your parents won't teach you, I'll do it myself."
  • As she said this, Gavin's mother walked toward Anya, looking like she was actually about to hit her.
  • Vivian was instantly furious and pulled Anya behind her, ready to fight back. "Try laying a finger on her, and see what happens!"
  • "Please, parents! Don't start a fight!"
  • One of the teachers noticed the commotion and ran over to intervene.
  • But it was already too late. Gavin's mother charged at Vivian, reaching out to scratch her face. "I'll tear your face apart!"
  • Vivian, known as the "little firecracker" of the Smiths, wasn't about to let this woman get the upper hand.
  • Before the woman could touch her, Vivian kicked her with a swift high heel to the stomach.
  • "Ow!"
  • Gavin's mother cried out in pain, clutching her stomach. She turned to her husband, furious. "Are you just going to stand there and watch me get beaten?"
  • The middle-aged man had been dazzled by Vivian's beauty when he first saw her. But now that his wife had been hit, he had no choice but to act. He rushed forward and raised his hand to slap Vivian.
  • Everyone around gasped in shock. They couldn't believe a man would actually hit a woman in public.
  • "Aunt Vivian!" Seeing that Vivian was about to be slapped, Anya screamed and tried to run over.
  • Vivian was terrified. It was too late to dodge, and as she watched the man's hand getting closer, she instinctively closed her eyes.
  • "Smack!"
  • But just then, a shadow moved swiftly, and someone grabbed the man's wrist mid-swing.
  • "Ahh!"
  • The man cried out in pain, his wrist twisting from the grip.
  • Vivian heard the scream and opened her eyes, only to see a broad figure standing protectively in front of her.
  • "Daddy!"
  • Anya immediately recognized Hadden just from his back, and she shouted in excitement.
  • Hadden didn't let go and suddenly said, "Cover Anya's eyes!"
  • Hearing Hadden's voice, Vivian finally realized who had saved her.
  • She quickly responded, "Oh!" and covered Anya's eyes.
  • "Let me go!"
  • The middle-aged man's face was flushed with pain, and he glared at Hadden, yelling, "Do you know who I am—"
  • "Boom!"
  • Before he could finish his boast, a sharp pain hit his stomach, and his entire body flew several feet away, like a ragdoll, before crashing to the ground.
  • The crowd fell into a dead silence, everyone frozen in shock.
  • Vivian had seen it with her own eyes: Hadden had kicked a grown man, probably weighing around 190 pounds, flying several dozen feet.
  • Her delicate face was filled with disbelief.
  • "Daddy! Why are you here?"
  • Anya wriggled out of Vivian's arms and ran happily toward Hadden.
  • Hadden picked her up, his face soft with a smile. "I came to take Anya home, of course!"
  • Vivian, who had just witnessed Hadden send a man flying with a single kick, was now looking at his gentle face. She couldn't help but wonder: Is this really the same brother-in-law everyone once looked down on?
  • "Gavin, did you see that? I'm not a fatherless kid! I have a daddy! He's my daddy!"
  • Anya suddenly turned to Gavin, her face full of pride.
  • Gavin started bawling, loudly. He had just seen with his own eyes how Anya's father had sent his dad flying with a single kick. The scene left a lasting and terrifying impression on him.
  • Hearing Anya's words filled Hadden with a bittersweet pain. The fact that having a complete family, just the presence of a father, could make her this happy showed how much she had missed out on.
  • Vivian, seeing Anya so joyful for the first time, rubbed her reddened eyes and let out a silent sigh.
  • "You little punk! You dare hit me? Just wait!"
  • After a moment, the middle-aged man finally struggled to his feet, his eyes blazing with anger as he dialed his phone.
  • "Please, it's just a small argument between kids. Don't take it out on each other. It's not good for the children," Tad Wheatly, the kindergarten principal, came over to mediate.
  • But the man, Damon Shaw, scoffed arrogantly, "Mr. Wheatly, don't waste your breath. I'm Damon Shaw of the Shaws. I just got beaten by some nobody. If I don't get back at him, how will I face anyone after this?"
  • Vivian's face turned pale, and she leaned toward Hadden, whispering, "He's from the Shaws. You should take Anya and leave now. I'm a woman—he can't do much to me."
  • Hadden glanced at Vivian, surprised. He hadn't expected her to be this loyal and protective. But it was already too late.
  • At that moment, three vans screeched to a halt in front of the kindergarten. Five or six burly men climbed out of each van.
  • "Who hit Mr. Shaw? Step out now!"
  • The leader of the group shouted angrily.
  • Anya trembled in fear and clung tightly to Hadden's neck.
  • Suddenly, a chilling aura erupted from Hadden, and the temperature around him seemed to drop several degrees. Vivian couldn't help but shiver as she looked at Hadden in shock.
  • "Anya, don't be scared. Daddy's here to protect you. No one can hurt you," Hadden said gently.
  • His words had an immediate calming effect. Anya's big, bright eyes blinked up at him. "Really, Daddy?"
  • "Daddy never lies," Hadden replied seriously.
  • Then he turned to Vivian. "Take Anya and leave. I'll handle things here."
  • "Daddy, I don't want to leave you!"
  • Anya panicked at his words, gripping him even tighter, her voice trembling with the threat of tears.
  • "Hadden, take your wife and go!"
  • Out of nowhere, a towering figure appeared beside Hadden.
  • Hadden heard Marc's words and couldn't help but feel exasperated. Which eye of yours sees her as my wife?
