Chapter 21 My Family

  • I always thought I was unlucky in life. I was the son of a drug-addicted prostitute who left me on the doorstep of a cold, cruel mobster. I had no father, as the man who contributed to my existence was more of a monster than a dad. And the only mother I ever knew was forbidden from showing me affection and died when I was fifteen.
  • All this time, I struggled to prove my worth to the bastards who saw me as nothing more than a useless bastard. I was the one running things behind the scenes. Lorenzo may have been the man sitting in the chair, keeping up the business and the image of a good guy, but I was the one handling negotiations, collections, and dealing with those who negatively influenced our business.
  • Day after day, I got up and left home to do my job without complaint. And the one time I had what I truly wanted, I had to abandon it, prioritizing duty over love.
