Chapter 5 At The Institute
- Chapter five
- I'm not really surprised, because this is something that doesn't amaze me.
- It's not new to me that students bother the new kid, especially because they're a nerd, but I know how to make them respect me with just a look, so they keep their eyes on the ground.
- Sometimes I feel like the queen of the world when I do that, but then I remember that I'm poor and it goes away.
- And here I am, ladies and gentlemen, sitting during recess or break time, as you may call it. For me, it will always be the useless or dead hour. I look around and see the popular kids on the upper left side and the nerds on the lower right side. The people who they consider normal, but are crazy, are in the center. And here I am, being labeled as the antisocial one, and even though that gives me some merit, I can't shake off a gaze since I stepped foot in this place.
- That blue"eyed boy, he seems to be the most handsome in the school or institute. In a movie, someone like me would come and he would approach, they would talk, chat, get to know each other, fall in love, and live happily ever after. But that's not me. I want to be a successful forensic doctor, not someone who is attached to me all the time and jealous of everything.
- I push those thoughts out of my mind and pay attention to the speakers in the cafeteria. "Miss Sara Poezyn, Miss Sara Poezyn, please report to the principal's office, Miss Sara Poezyn, Miss..." another voice interrupts.
- "Don't you get tired, old man? You've repeated that eighty"four times," a female voice says.
- "But I only said it once just now," the principal retorts.
- "None of that, Cuchurrumin. Come on, give me a kiss." Everyone in the cafeteria laughs, even louder when they hear the loud kiss along with an "Oh yes, Christian Grey, hit me harder."
- Doesn't anyone have dignity in this life?
- All the noise that was being made before falls into a dead silence until a loud thud echoes throughout the place. I cover my ears as I continue to hear the conversation. "You're so clumsy. You still had your finger on the speaker."
- "Well, what did you expect? I was repeating, Sara..."
- "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever, just let go of the button. Ah, you're so absent"minded!"
- I stand up with a green apple in my hand and walk towards the principal's office. As I move forward, I hear the different whispers of the others, feeling their auras and thoughts.
- It's overwhelming.
- Having so many things in your mind, things that aren't yours, feels like invading their privacy, even though I don't need to know their hormone"filled thoughts. I internally shake my head and finish my journey, entering the audiovisual hallway where I pass by the secretary's office. I greet the secretary, who responds kindly with a "Good morning." I quickly point out the direction, and she nods without saying a word.
- A shiver runs down my body, and I start to feel uneasy.
- "Alright, go through that door and fight the battle."
- "Who do you think you are, a warrior?"
- "Always ruining the moment."
- "Oh, just shut up and let's go in."
- I push the door open and there I am, facing the principal and a man sitting with his back to me, wearing a perfectly clean and ironed suit, so much so that he seems extremely important.
- The principal looks at him and shrinks in his seat behind the desk. He must be extremely important if he scares the highest figure in the school.
- "Good afternoon, Miss Sara Poezyn. Please take a seat. Here, I present to you the most successful businessman in all of California, Mr. Wade Dhall." I close my eyes and let out a loud sigh. That's why my body was so restless.
- He stands up from his chair, and in a quick motion, he is in front of me, greeting me with those typical eyes and a smile that would make any girl weak.
- I proceed to formally greet and that stupid current passes through my hands again, making them sweaty. "Mr. Wade Dhall, it is an honor to be present," I release his hand in an instant and take a seat. I look at the director. "Well, tell me why you called me. Right after recess, I have math class and I don't want to be late."
- "Miss Poezyn, that's why Mr. Dhall is here, he can take you."
- I sigh. "I understand perfectly." He, very arrogantly, sits back down.
- "I called you because even though it's only been one day, I wanted to tell you that your grades are excellent. Therefore, you are the number one honor student in the entire school, and it would be an honor for us if you represented us in the 'Successful Student' competition at one of Mr. Dhall's companies..."
- The arrogant one interrupts. "It's a beneficial competition for students. The prizes can vary depending on the type of winner. The third place winner will get an all"expenses"paid trip to Europe, the second place winner will receive a scholarship to study wherever they want, and the number one winner can choose anything they want and I will make it happen." His expression is serious. We share glances and I look away.
- It makes me so angry that I feel like putting my hands on his neck and choking him to death.
- "What do you say?" the director brings me back from my murderous thoughts and I turn to look at him.
- "I will only accept with one condition." I close my eyes and sigh. "Otherwise, no deal." I turn to him. "If it's what I want, right?"
- He nods. "Exactly."
- "Then, when I finish with everything and win first place, you will have to accompany me to a morgue to study a dead body."
- "What, is that what you want?"
- "Is that what you want, Miss?" the director intervenes.
- "That's all I ask for." I cross my arms, waiting for an answer.
- "It makes me laugh. All you could have asked for and you only ask for that, something so insignificant."
- "Maybe it's insignificant to you, but for me, it's my goal, my dream. And if you're offended by my interest in studying the dead, then I don't know what kind of businessman you are." I look at my nails. "Maybe a coward." I see the director's reaction, his eyes bulging out of their sockets, along with a very serious businessman sitting with his arms crossed, looking at me with those hypnotizing, dark eyes.
- "That's not an obstacle for me, and I accept the deal." He extends his hand and I shake it, sealing the agreement.
- "With nothing else to say, when do I have to participate in this competition and where will it take place?"
- "You will participate in each of the projects assigned to you, and it will take place at one of Mr. Wade's companies, to be specific, at Communication Incorporation. And if you still don't know where it is, Mr. Dhall will be here tomorrow morning at nine to take you. Bring clothes, because you won't be going home. You will spend those days in a hotel near the company." I click my tongue. "Now you can go to the math classroom." I quickly stand up.
- "It's impressive what you do when you feel offended. I like it."
- "...."
- "Did you say that?"
- "No, I didn't say that. It was something that came to my mind and sounded in your head."
- "But who was it? I don't want intruders knowing what I think."
- "Don't worry, it won't happen again."
- "Yes, it will happen again."
- "That must be your imagination, and you don't know how much you have."
- "No, it's not. Look for someone close to you, and you will find them."
- I shake my mind and look around me. I am in the hallways of the school with people scattered around.
- "Sara, I'm asking you what class you have." I turn slightly and find a tie. "Look up." I raise my head, once again seeing those heartbreaker eyes, a smile that wets my panties, and a very arrogant Ricky Rich.
- "Now it's my turn." I abruptly stop, pulling my backpack to find my schedule card. "Physics."
- He smiles. "You will be with someone you already know, just like me." I look at him, puzzled.
- Someone I know?
- That's strange.
- "Who is it?"
- "You'll see, you'll see." He walks with his elegance and sophistication.
- Typical of someone important.
- "He is someone important."
- "That's true."
- He smiles again, shaking his head.
- Ah, it's so beautiful.
- Oh, shut up, he must have a girlfriend.
- No, do you really think that if he had a girlfriend, he would have taken you to dinner at that restaurant with that one table? He doesn't have one, stop thinking about that.
- I snap out of my trance and realize that we are in front of a chocolate"colored door, and behind it, I hear a familiar voice "we are outside the Physics classroom, you go in first and I'll follow.
- I roll my eyes "Don't tell me "I grab the doorknob to open it when he pulls me by the arm and turns me around.
- "What did I do to make you hate me that day? I was too polite, I think it was too good to be true," I let go of his grip.
- "You're too chivalrous to be true," I open the door, catching the attention of everyone, including the teacher.
- Damn teacher. Because of him, my mother is probably at home crying.
- "Professor Mate, I'm here to bring the student Sara, as she is the chosen one for this year's Successful Student contest," I look at the others and there he is again, that popular boy who always looks at me from afar, that boy with blue eyes.
- This is getting a little uncomfortable.
- "Miss, you can come in and introduce yourself and take a seat," I scan the entire classroom and find a bench in the left corner right next to the tough guy.
- Surely all the girls love him.
- I walk until I reach the center of the classroom and introduce myself ""My name is Sara Poezyn and I come from Texas," I lower my head to continue, and suddenly I feel his hand around my arm and I crash into his chest.
- "Excuse me, I just wanted to say that the bus that will pick you up for the contest tomorrow will be one block away from here, that's all," I nod and go to sit down. I take out my things and look again at the door where I see Wade growing like that day at the restaurant, and some like Mate and other students look away from him and stare at the floor.
- Is he so powerful that even the students are afraid of him?
- He leaves and everyone resumes the normal class. I play with my pencil in hand while I think if I made a good decision.
- But what could go wrong tomorrow?
- Only if my mom doesn't let me go and if she doesn't send me to the institute anymore because Mate is my physics teacher, and now that I think about it, I haven't noticed his outfit since I arrived. I turn my head towards him and observe him from head to toe, he's wearing cream dress pants with a royal blue shirt rolled up to his elbows, and his hair pulled up with his sparse beard gives him a touch,
- "sexy?"
- "The thing is, he looks good, now that I think about it."
- I turn my gaze towards my classmates and almost all the pretty girls in the class are looking at Mate with silly faces, it's incredible what they do just to see him.
- Aren't they afraid of failing?
- "They are naive girls, obviously not!"
- "Miss Sara, are you okay?" the whole class turns to look at me, "since you arrived, I've noticed that you're a bit distracted."
- "I'm perfectly fine, professor, don't worry and continue with your class."
- "Alright, can you tell me what I'm talking about?"
- I sigh, "You're talking about physical constants and capacitance prefixes, do you want me to tell you what they mean?"
- "It's not necessary," he continues explaining his class.
- This day will be long.
- Very long.
