Chapter 1 The Icy Cold Brother In Law
- "Don’t forget."
- “I won't forget if you keep telling me every second. Lillah, you've never been like this before. You're overreacting today."
- A snort was heard on the other side. But Elyseen didn't want to pay much attention to his wife's snort because he was in a hurry. He had a meeting on the fifteenth floor of the exhibition building. And he was ten minutes late because of the damn traffic jam. It kept him from not moving at all for more than fifteen minutes.
- "Of course, I'm very excited, El! You know, this is Brynlee, my little sister who I haven't seen in over five years. The last time we met was when she left for New York to study culinary arts. I heard a rumor that she works at the best steakhouse in New York as head chef. You know—” Lillah’s voice dropped to a whisper, “—Brynlee is a smart girl. I don't doubt it at all."
- Lillah kept babbling about her sister, but Elyseen didn't seem to care. He had never even met Lillah's mysterious little sister. According to him, Brynlee had a bad attitude. When he and Lillah got married five years ago, Brynlee didn't come at all. Brynlee said she was taking a short class in France for her portfolio. She was very selfish and didn't make her family as her priority, whereas Lillah really cared about her. Brynlee didn't care about her sister's life and instead filled her days for herself.
- "Are you still there, El?"
- "Yes, I'm still here.”
- He had just gotten out of the elevator after holding back his anger because the people in the elevator with him kept getting off at different floors. No one was heading to the same floor with him! it really pissed him off.
- "Lillah, I'm already late for the meeting."
- "Okay then, see you tonight."
- Lillah sent a flying kiss that sounded really loud over the loudspeaker. She still seemed very excited, and she would never stop talking about her great sister until Elyseen took the initiative to shut her lips.
- Brug!
- Dammit! There was nothing more unlucky than being late for a meeting and being hit by a careless girl in front of the elevator.
- "Be careful, miss."
- Elyseen couldn't stop cursing as he picked up the fallen documents from his black briefcase. He was stupid for not zipping his briefcase after he got out of the car carelessly. He thought that since he was late, it would be easier for him to leave the bag open so he could get the files out easily. But, he was wrong. He didn't expect that someone would bump into him and mess him up.
- “Sorry, it was my fault.”
- The woman crouched in front of him to help collect his scattered documents.
- "Just be careful next time."
- "Once again, I am sorry," The woman handed him some of the documents she had managed to collect. Her face showed deep regret.
- Without saying a word, Elyseen snatched his documents and walked away towards the meeting place.
- He was twenty minutes late because of the unexpected incident. He could only hope that his client didn't decide to cancel his contract because of his lateness today.
- "Good morning."
- "Oh welcome Mr Flyn, good morning."
- Mrs. Harriet, his assistant and secretary, moved quickly to help him put the files on the table. Meanwhile, his deputy director and three people from Germany who were about to sign a contract with him immediately stood up to shake hands with him.
- "Sorry, I'm late. Traffic jam and unexpected incident in front of the elevator."
- “No problem, Mr. Flyn. Mr. Hemming has explained to us a few things about our new project.”
- Elyseen silently thanked his deputy director, Eton Hemming, then quickly sat down in his chair.
- "Well, now that everything is ready, let's start today's meeting."
- -00-
- Her fingers tapped boredly on the smooth wooden tabletop. The corner of her eye glanced at the watch on her wrist boredly. The elevator doors always opened and closed with people she didn't expect at all. She really hated waiting. If that person was not important to her, she would have left that place and gone home.
- "Brynlee!"
- The familiar scream startled Brynlee and made her cheer excitedly. For the first time in the hour since she had been waiting there, the elevator finally spit out the person she had been waiting for.
- "Stephany?"
- The woman with long wavy hair waved at Brynlee like a beauty pageant winner walking on stage. Her face didn't look at all sorry or guilty for making a busy woman like Brynlee wait for her for an hour.
- "I thought you forgot our appointment today," Brynlee said sarcastically.
- She folded her arms in front of her chest, observing Stephani's appearance, whose aura was very positive. Tiffany looked very bright that morning, in contrast to herself, who looked very cloudy.
- "Sorry, I went up to the wrong floor, fifteenth floor," Tiffany grimaced.
- “Didn't I tell you many times that I was waiting for you on the twelfth floor? Why did you go up to the fifteenth floor instead?”
- “Oh my dear Brynlee, I'm in a hurry. I didn't have time to remember the floor number when I had to make a quick decision in that very crowded elevator. You know, I was in an elevator with an arrogant guy. He shouted at me when it took me three seconds to decide which floor to go to.”
- "Good. You deserve it.”
- "Well, my bad luck doesn't stop there. Listen to my other story," her lips pouted.
- "What happened to you?"
- “I bumped into a grumpy man. He was mad at me, Bry! Oh, and he was rude to me too!”
- Tiffany pissed her with her whining sounds. People started looking at them with various expressions. Most of them were annoyed because they were disturbed by Tiffany's loud whining.
- "For God's sake, Tiffany! Stop your whining."
- “Oh Brynlee, I'm so mad at that guy. He—"
- Tiffany suddenly stopped. She widened her eyes in surprise, then pulled Brynlee in front of her to cover her from someone who had just gotten out of the elevator.
- "What are you doing?" Brynlee exclaimed in annoyance.
- Tiffany pulled her dress so tight that Brynlee was worried that her dress would tear because of Tiffany's actions.
- "He's coming! Oh my God, that arrogant guy is here.”
- "Who?" Brynlee pushed Tiffany's hand away roughly and straightened her back, but Tiffny quickly pulled her head down so they both crouched under the table.
- "Tiffany, let go of me!"
- “That man is behind you. Walk with his colleagues. Ssshhh... shut up! He's right behind you."
- Brynlee was really annoyed by Tiffany's childishness. Tiffany kept her head pressed under the table for a few moments. She couldn't even straighten her back, or even turn her head to look at the man Tiffany was talking about. Honestly, she was curious why her strange friend was so hysterical just because that man entered the cafe.
- "Is he gone?”
- "He sat in the lounge with his colleagues. Let's get out of here, Bryn."
- Brynlee huffed in annoyance as she managed to get up from under the table. She looked very messy. Her skirt was wrinkled and her ponytail was loose. Some people were seen holding back laughter as they started to leave their tables.
- "If you weren't my best friend, I would definitely kick you out."
- “Oh... dear Brynlee, you wouldn't have the heart to hurt me. You are the most gentle and also the nicest woman I have ever known.”
- The two of them walked away from the café and entered the elevator as soon as the elevator doors opened wide for them. But before the elevator doors closed, Brynlee took the time to glance down at the lounge and see the crowd of men with a middle-aged woman sitting at a round table. The people there seemed so serious about something that became the main topic between the six of them. Unfortunately, she didn't know which man Tiffany was referring to.
