Chapter 8 Two Faced
- Truly, Corbin was two-faced, and it was something he could pull off effortlessly.
- Suddenly, Jared thought about Corbin's accusations against Whitney, claiming that she was maliciously targeting him. Could it be Whitney had known all along about Corbin's true nature, which was why she was so harsh toward him?
- With that in mind, everything started to make sense to Jared.
- In less than an hour, a hundred Epean currency was reduced to only twenty-five.
- In the evening, everyone gathered in the guys' room, setting out the travel plans for the following day.
- The show required visiting five attractions, but no matter how they crunched the numbers, they were short on cash. Just the cost of transportation to the first attraction for the six of them would set them back over thirty Epean currency the next day.
- Suddenly, a cool male voice rang out. “What about the bus?”
- The one who spoke was Shane.
- Everyone turned to look at him.
- Corbin turned around with a bitter smile. “None of us are locals, and the routes are complicated. I'm afraid we might not reach our destination and end up getting lost. Getting lost would waste both our time and money.”
- Upon glancing at Corbin, Shane fell silent.
- Corbin hesitated for a moment before saying, “Well, I guess I'll have to look up the bus routes then.” He acted as though he had to look it up due to Shane's request.
- Shane's brow furrowed slightly.
- Jared and Loretta exchanged a glance, recognizing that Corbin was playing the victim again. Only Sasha remained oblivious to it all.
- Whitney had flopped onto the furthest couch, casually flipping through the hotel's promotional brochure instead of participating in the discussion.
- Corbin picked up his phone to check the routes, but he didn't understand Friyxian, and the translation app was inaccurate. Despite his efforts, he was terribly stressed and still couldn't figure it out in the end.
- After an hour, everyone was exhausted. Jared then spoke up. “Let's take a break for now. We'll continue checking it tomorrow morning.”
- The three women had returned to their rooms. The next day, when Corbin got up, he suddenly said, “I'm sorry, I think I've caught a cold.”
- Jared furrowed his brows. “Do you need to visit the hospital?”
- Corbin coughed lightly and said, “It must've been because I stayed up too late researching last night and didn't notice the chill from the balcony. I think I'll lie down a bit longer. You guys go ahead and discuss our next steps.”
- Jared gave Corbin a profound look, then turned to Shane. “Shall we get going, Mr. Quimbey?”
- Shane picked up his own coat, not even sparing Corbin a glance. “Mhm.”
- Two men ventured into the women's room. Upon hearing that Corbin was ill and couldn't participate in the route discussion, Loretta immediately scoffed.
- Whitney also grinned faintly. Only Sasha was left in confusion, expressing her concern. “Oh no, he's sick? I should go check on him.”
- With that, she dashed out.
- The four people left in the room were all astute. Jared spoke directly to the camera. “Corbin has been working too hard. He's a junior, so we can't always rely on him. He has his moments of exhaustion, too. I don't think we should burden him with leading us moving on.” That effectively brought to light Corbin's attempts to delegate responsibility.
- However, without Corbin, they still needed someone among them to step up and make decisions.
- Nobody dared to bother Shane. In the end, both Jared and Loretta turned their attention to Whitney. “Whitney, what do you think?”
- Whitney was idly munching on biscuits of unknown origin, nonchalantly saying, “I'm insignificant. I'll do whatever you say.”
- Loretta chuckled. “What nonsense are you talking about? We're all here for the same show, and you're the butler.”
- “I'm not the butler. I'm just an insignificant servant.”
- At that moment, Sasha returned just in time to hear Whitney's words. She sat back down next to Loretta, looking a bit puzzled. Then, she suddenly asked, “Where did you get those little biscuits? Give me one! I'm starving!”
- Whitney swiftly devoured the small biscuit, sipping on hot water, and said, “There's none left.”
- “You!”
- Loretta reached out to stop Sasha. She got up, walked over, and patted Whitney's back. “Don't throw a tantrum. We're all here to have fun together. Tell me, what's your opinion on the matter?”
- Whitney still shook her head. “I have a plan, but I'm just an insignificant person.”
- “You do?” Jared asked immediately.
- Whitney turned her face away. “No, I don't. An insignificant isn't worthy of having a plan.”
- Sasha immediately stood up. “Tell us quickly what your plan is!”
- Whitney not only shook her head but also murmured something under her breath, “An insignificant person like me is a lackey. Insignificant lackey. Lackey. Oh, I'm worthless.”
- The others were speechless.
- Meanwhile, the live comments were getting rowdy.
- One typed: I'm dying of laughter!
- Another added: Whitney's performance is peak snark.
- Someone argued: Who said Whitney was insignificant? Look how upset she is. Although, does she really have a solution?
- A netizen added, To be honest, I don't believe that Whitney really has a solution. It's clear that there isn't enough money to do everything. Yesterday, Corbin was made a fool, and today the guy just disappeared. Quite impressive indeed.
- A commenter typed: Why are you talking about our Cory like that? Whether it was at the hotel or the restaurant yesterday, he only spent money after asking everyone else's opinion and getting their approval. He even fell sick from figuring out the route for them. There are six of them in total, so why is all the blame falling on him?
- One argued: If he couldn't do it, he shouldn't have taken the lead from the start. You say nobody mentioned the hotel being too expensive or the restaurant's high prices yesterday. Well, it was he who insisted, and out of politeness, everyone agreed. Now, he's shirking his responsibility. You're not making any sense.
- The previous guy replied: What do you mean he's shirking responsibility? He's sick!
- The one from earlier responded: It's too convenient that he fell ill at this time. Wasn't Shane sick, too? The two rooms are only a few steps apart, yet Shane just somehow couldn't make the trip? I don't believe it.
- Another remarked: I don't like Corbin either. Don't think we Shane fans forgot about what Corbin said about our idol yesterday.
- The barrage of live comments gradually focused on Corbin.
- Inside the hotel room, Loretta was still coaxing Whitney. “Come on, tell me, what exactly is your plan?”
- Whitney's eyes were rebelliously relaxed as she casually said, “I'm insignificant. What can I do?”
- “Whitney, speak properly!” Sasha was angry, feeling like hitting someone.
- Immediately, Whitney rose to her feet, her posture radiating utmost respect as she bowed. “Your admonition is justified, Ms. Fletcher. I am deeply at fault and deserve the harshest punishment. Should I kneel and bow to you in apology?”
- “Whitney!” Sasha lost her temper and stood up, hands on her hips, walking around in place. “You're driving me absolutely crazy!”
- Meanwhile, Shane turned his face away, unable to hold back his smile.
- Whitney's amazing temper surprised him.
- Sasha was fuming with rage and pointed at the production crew, demanding, “Who exactly called her insignificant? Tell us, what are we going to do now?”
- Whitney, with an air of aloofness, took a seat on the couch, seemingly lost in her own world.
- The production crew could no longer bear it and were on the verge of going mad. “That's not what we meant. Please stop saying you're insignificant...”
- “Am I not insignificant? You all said to have me serve them. Did I fail to do so?” retorted Whitney.
- “You're the butler. It's your responsibility to solve their problems.”
- “Oh, now you want me to come up with ideas? Well, my idea is that you all come up with the solution, and I'll do as you all say.”
- Both the production crew and the others were speechless.
- Whitney was really determined to oppose them to the very end!
- Loretta could tell that Whitney really did have an idea about what to do. She gently said, “Whitney, take it easy. As I understand it, the butler's role is to manage all of us well. You are the butler, so you should be the one leading us. Why do you keep calling yourself insignificant?”
- Whitney gave Loretta a glance, but remained silent.
- Jared added, “Yeah, Whitney, why don't you go back to being the way you were before? Whatever you say, we'll follow your lead.”
- Whitney cast another glance at Jared, then shifted her gaze toward Sasha.
- Sasha didn't say anything, so Loretta tugged gently at Sasha's sleeve.
- In the end, with a huff, Sasha stated, “You have to ensure we have a place to live and food to eat. If you can guarantee that, I'll listen to you.”
- Whitney shifted her gaze, clearly thinking that what Sasha had said was pointless. In the end, her eyes landed on Shane.
- When Shane looked at her, there was still a touch of amusement in his dark eyes. “I've always listened to you.”
