Chapter 3 The Miracle Born In Aploth
- The euphoria of reincarnation quickly subsided, and Whitney then remembered something. Mr. Lambert said Corbin sold me to him, didn't he? Ha! Back in my previous life, Mr. Lambert never uttered those words. Perhaps in this life, it was because I inadvertently hurt Mr. Lambert that, in a fit of rage, he blurted out the truth. Oh, Corbin! You're ruthless!
- After leaving the hospital, Whitney headed to the hotel.
- Just as the elevator doors were opening, she hurriedly quickened her pace. “Hold on,” she called out.
- The man in the elevator pressed the door's open button.
- Rushing over, Whitney instinctively said, “Thank—”
- Before she could finish her sentence, she suddenly froze. The sight of the aloof man standing before her, clad in a black coat, had caught her off guard.”
- Shane, recognized as the world's first actor to win nine awards, was a figure revered as a legend in the entertainment industry. International media had even hailed him as a miracle born in Aploth.
- Whitney retracted her look of surprise, standing at the edge of the elevator.
- In her previous life, Whitney had only seen Shane on television. Surprisingly, upon her reincarnation, she encountered him in person.
- The elevator ascended slowly. Whitney was staring straight ahead, but suddenly, through the metallic elevator doors, she caught sight of the man beside her, subtly turning his head to look at her.
- Immediately, Whitney also turned his gaze toward the other party.
- Their eyes met. The man subtly raised an eyebrow while the girl looked on, her eyes filled with caution.
- “What are you looking at?” Whitney asked coldly.
- The man was taken aback and rendered speechless. He then indifferently averted his gaze. What an ingrate! This is quite an eye-opener.
- The elevator doors slid open, and Whitney practically leaped out, sprinting all the way to her apartment. She hastily keyed in her passcode to unlock the door. Just as she was about to enter, she unexpectedly spotted Shane heading her way.
- With a loud bang, she immediately shut the room door.
- In the corridor, Shane was at a loss for words.
- Inside, the room remained as chaotic as it was before.
- As Whitney passed by a full-length mirror, she turned her head and saw her reflection.
- Her skin was as fair as porcelain, contrasting with her raven-black long hair and striking eyes. Her lips, a captivating shade of cherry red, added to her allure. In addition, she possessed a slender and elegant figure.
- She had known from a very early time that her beauty would attract a fair share of predators.
- Indeed, the facts had proven it to be true.
- In her previous life, she was sold to an underground live-streaming platform, but in her current life, she was sold to Bruce.
- She knew that such incidents might occur again in the future.
- That was when she thought back to the moment when Shane suddenly looked at her.
- Whitney's face was etched with coldness. “Men all the same. Not a single good one among them!” she sneered. After this reincarnation, I must become tough-hearted. I should no longer trust any man! Well, except for the kind-hearted individual who not only called 911 for me previously but also paid for my medical expenses. Will I ever cross paths with him again in the future?
- Afterward, Whitney swiftly packed up her belongings and returned to Wellbrook Tower in Strico.
- Her agent, Melanie Goodwin, glanced at Whitney, who was engrossed in her phone on the couch, then at the suitcase beside her leg. “Good timing. There's a variety show deal for you. I just need your signature.”
- Whitney looked up and said, “I want to see what kind of variety show it is. I won't accept if it's subpar.”
- “Won't accept?” Melanie laughed as if she had heard the biggest joke in the world. “You think you can just say no? Do you even have the right to refuse? Do you have any idea how much we've spent on public relations to clean up your past mess? You would've been sidelined if it weren't for your good looks! How could you still be so picky?”
- In response, Whitney repeated, “I won't accept if it's subpar.”
- Melanie was getting a bit frustrated with Whitney, tossing a contract onto the table in front of her. “It's a web series. I'm not sure if it's good or bad, but you have to take it.”
- “I won't take it,” Whitney declared, glancing briefly at the name on the contract.
- Melanie slammed the table. “When I'm speaking to you earnestly, you better listen, Whitney. If you dare to defy me, you will only meet your end quicker!”
- Whitney looked up and said, “Even if we take on this variety show, it's pointless. It's going to be canceled.”
- “How would you know?” Melanie scoffed.
- Of course, she knew. She had experienced it in her previous life.
- Pointing at two names in the guest column, Whitney remarked, “These two are having an affair.”
- Melanie paused, looking down, only to realize that the man was a middle-aged artist known for being an ideal husband. The woman, on the other hand, was a C-list young actress.
- “Where did you hear that from?” Melanie was somewhat skeptical.
- “I have my sources. The man's wife is currently hiring a private detective to gather evidence. If this news breaks during the variety show, it won't be able to air,” Whitney answered. That was what happened in her previous life. Because of their extramarital affair, it became a scandal on social media, causing the already recorded variety show to be pulled off the air.
- Melanie remained skeptical, so she made a call to confirm. After a brief moment, she ended the call, and her gaze toward Whitney seemed to shift slightly.
- After a while, Melanie said, “All right, there's a new variety show. Why don't you give it a shot? I'll get you the contract later.”
- In the evening, Whitney returned to the modest single-room dormitory provided by the company, carrying some daily necessities she had purchased. Her card balance was then a mere eighty.
- Fortunately, it didn't take long for Melanie's assistant, Rachel Flores, to arrive, carrying a variety show contract with her.
- Upon seeing the guest's name, Whitney paused for a moment. Corbin?
- Rachel was in a hurry, so she urged, “Just sign your name right at the end.”
- She then explained further, “This is a travel reality show featuring five guests on a budget trip. Among them, there's a butler who usually takes care of the daily needs of the five guests. Basically, the guests would turn to the butler for anything they need. Initially, the plan was to have Everett Keegan as the butler. He's a young man, strong, and has been in the industry for a year, so it would have been a good opportunity for him to gain some exposure. However, when he saw Corbin, he became reluctant to go.”
- Whitney raised her head to ask, “He became reluctant to go after he saw Corbin?”
- Rachel nodded. “Corbin and Everett started their careers at the same time. Corbin has made the right connections, and he's now playing the second male lead in Mr. Lambert's TV series. On the other hand, Everett is still a nobody. He didn't want to cater to Corbin. In fact, Everett has gone missing, and no one can find him.”
- “I get it.” Whitney swiftly signed her name at the end. “Most people find Corbin annoying.”
- Whitney gave her a peculiar look. “I thought you were a fan of Corbin? Wasn't he your phone's screensaver last time?”
- With a casual expression, Whitney raised her phone and asked, “Are you referring to this?”
- Rachel glanced down and saw on the phone screen that Corbin had been doodled on to look like he had a huge nose, his face covered in freckles, and a mouth wide open as if he were screaming.
- “Oh... You're a hater, then.”
- With a smile, Whitney handed Rachel the signed contract. “Don't worry. I will definitely take good care of our five guests, especially Corbin!”
- Rachel, in a daze, held the contract and was about to leave. Before leaving, something came to her mind. “They will livestream the show. You won't have any issues with that, right?”
- “There's absolutely no problem.”
- Livestream? Whitney gave a chilling smile. Well, this is getting more interesting!
