Chapter 15 Make Up For Everything You Owe Me
- “Hey, buddy, what's meant for you will always be yours, but don't force what's not!”
- Howard furrowed his brows, ignoring me. Instead, he looked at Rosalie and anxiously tried to make his pitch.
- “Rosalie, when it comes to family background or personal abilities, in what way am I inferior to him? I receive scholarships every year, but him? He's nothing more than a rural migrant without definite prospects!”
- Rosalie said with a resolute gaze, “Howard, you're great in every way, but you're not Theros! If it weren't for that incident three years ago, he would be a first-tier university student now!”
- Listening to Rosalie speak up for me, I couldn't help but feel a warmth in my heart.
- Upon hearing this, Howard was just about to speak when Gavin, who was standing nearby, chided, “Dude, mind your own business and get lost! Stop blathering before I lose my patience with you!”
- Howard let out a chuckle and retorted, “Who are you trying to scare?”
- This provocative statement directly ignited Gavin's volatile temper.
- Gavin was the type who was ruthless and sparing with words. Without wasting a single breath, he strode up to Howard and slapped him twice across the face!
- “I'm trying to scare you. Did it work?” With a scoff, Gavin extended his finger and pointed at Howard, adding, “If you're not satisfied, feel free to find me anytime. My name is Gavin Warren, and I work at Sea Arcade! Also, stop bothering Rosalie. If I see you with her again, I'll kick your ass!”
- Howard gritted his teeth. However, due to his stature being smaller than Gavin's, he didn't have the courage to make a move.
- “D*mn it, just you wait!” Howard spat out harshly before turning and storming off in a huff.
- Gavin cast me a glance, saying, “The mouth is for counting money, not for arguing!”
- I chuckled in response, then grasped Rosalie's hands. “Rosalie, I work at Saint Riveria Spa, so I can come hang out with you whenever I'm free!”
- Rosalie pouted and said, “Then you have to make up for everything you owe me over these past three years!”
- After exchanging pleasantries with Rosalie for a while, we swapped phone numbers. With a look of reluctance in her eyes, she quickly pecked me on the lips, then shyly ran into the dormitory building.
- Feeling the lingering warmth on my lips, I stood there, grinning foolishly as I watched her leave.
- At this moment, Gavin's voice rang out, dripping with envy. “What's got you grinning like a fool? Hurry up and get in the car before you freeze to death!”
- I smirked, taking the passenger seat. Gavin looked at me with a face full of disdain.
- “If a simple kiss from her makes you this happy, I can't imagine what you'd be like if you two spent the night together. I suspect you'd be walking on air!”
- “What do you know? This is called innocent love!” I retorted with a smile.
- Gavin didn't pay me any more attention, merely focusing on driving. As I watched the campus scenery fly by, a pang of sorrow hit me. Twelve years of relentless studying, all for naught - I was completely out of luck when it came to university!
- However, it seemed worth it. After all, every adult had to pay the price for their own impulsiveness!
- Meanwhile, in Bellaros Karaoke's office.
- Linus was lounging on the couch, a cigar in one hand while his other kept fiddling with a beaded rosary.
- The man before him was his top hatchet man, Solomon Zackel, better known by his nickname “Solomon the Great.”
- Solomon respectfully asked, “Mr. Linus, should I call a few of our guys to set up an ambush for your meeting with Arnold tonight? Just in case that b*stard tries to double-cross us!”
- “No need!” Linus blew out a smoke ring, squinting his eyes as he said, “Arnold won't dare to have a fallout with us directly, at least not for now. His intention for coming over tonight is actually because he's trying to mediate the situation with Tigre and the others. After all, if we start fighting, the other two families will just sit back and enjoy the show. Nobody's a fool! By the way, Solomon, what's your opinion on Theros, Tigre's new subordinate?”
- After a moment of hesitation, Solomon said, “Mr. Linus, I looked into him, and he just got out of prison. He was in the same cell as Tigre, and now that he's out, he's working for Tigre. He's just a kid from the countryside, so I think him being able to move the fish was merely a coincidence!”
- Linus' gaze was dark and intent as he stated, “My initial impression of him was fairly positive, but I can't just disregard the geomancer's words! The geomancer prophesied that the subordinate who can attract the attention of the lucky charm fish would rise to power over me. The mere thought of this truly unsettles me!”
- Frowning, Solomon suggested, “Should I have someone deal with him?”
- Linus waved his hand. “He's just a kid, so let's observe him first before making any decisions! Even if he's a dragon, he'll have to behave under my watch!”
- Back to my side of things.
- Gavin drove me to a barbecue restaurant, where he ordered two servings of meat skewers, three kinds of appetizers, and a pitcher of beer.
- As soon as the beer was brought over, Gavin said to the apron-clad proprietress, “Ma'am, could you chill this beer in the snow for a bit before serving it? Otherwise, it's going to be lukewarm!”
- The woman gave a light chuckle but didn't utter a word, simply walked out with the beer.
- I took a bite of the potato salad before asking Gavin, “Mr. Warren, it seems like you have quite a laid-back job! Are you guys planning to return that chubby guy's phone?”
