- “Darn it, at your age, you're not acting your part, you're quite the character, aren't you! Come on, tell me! Can I leave the village or not? I'm twenty-one, so what if I blow your head off? I'll do twenty years and get out at forty-one. What about you? You really wanna mess with me?”
- Compadre stared at the pitch-black muzzle of the gun, daring not to utter a word. The people sitting by the heated bed had already turned their heads away, pretending as if they saw nothing.
- I let out a cold laugh. “I’m calling you ‘sir’ out of respect for your age, but you’ve been messing around behind my back! In this village, you're the chief. But once you step outside, you're nobody!”
