- I'm bone-deep in cold. My eyelids are heavy, but the hoarse sound of Damon's breath draws me from the depths of nothingness. I struggle to open my eyes, the pale moonlight reflecting off the cracks in the cabin ceiling. My body feels numb, as if something has broken inside me.
- A warm hand encircles mine, and I feel the pressure of his fingers. Damon is sitting next to me, his face taut with worry. His amber eyes, almost golden in the moonlight, are veiled in a shadow I've never seen before.
