Chapter 2

  • MICHELLE’s POV.
  • I gently open my eyes as the gloomy day dawns upon me. Last night was the most terrifying day of my life and I badly wanted to think it was a dream but here I am on the bed with the side of Nicholas cold and unlaid.
  • Tears well up in my eyes but I try to push it to the back of my head, the divorce papers are lying on the table beside me while the pregnancy report is just by the side. One contained my happiness and the other contained my pain. My three years of marriage have come crashing to the ground with a loud bang, I feel like a weakling.
  • I grab the divorce papers again and stare down at it, the words are dancing before my eyes. The fact that Nick’s signature is staring back at me makes everything so unbearable. Did he even hesitate before signing this? Did he even have a second thought before penning down his signature? A lot is going on in my head as I continue to look at the papers in my hand. I can no longer contain the tears and it hurts so much, I can feel my legs go weak.
  • Dropping the paper back on the table, I pull my body out of bed and make my way towards the bathroom. As I enter, my own reflection catches my attention. I look like a shadow of my former self just in one day. In one day, Nicholas had made me a laughing stock to the demons that haunt me. How will I be able to face the world outside?
  • I turn on the shower and allow the water to run down my body. Maybe the stench of my shame will be reduced by the time the water rushes down my body but the more it pours, the more the tears come running leaving me trembling with pain and agony. We were supposed to be talking and discussing about our baby but Nick didn’t even know I am pregnant for him, he didn’t even realize I am carrying the heir to the pack, he didn’t.
  • After half an hour, I finally come out of the shower and force myself to get dressed. I put on a pair of denim and a T-shirt while leaving my hair in a messy bun. Finally, I make my way out of the confines of my room to the wickedness of the outside world.
  • “Good morning, Luna” the housekeeper, Grace greets as she comes across me.
  • “Where is Nickolas?” I ask her.
  • “He is having breakfast with Natalia” she answers and a new kind of pain envelopes me. For the past three years, Nick had not had breakfast without me. We always ate together and now he is eating with her?
  • “Okay” I make to walk away but Grace halts me again.
  • “You look so pale, Luna” she says, “are you not feeling fine?”
  • “Just go about your work, Grace” I am definitely not in the mood to talk to anyone and with that, I make my way down the stairs and the silent chuckle of Natalia reaches my ears.
  • Bracing myself, I walk down to the dining room and they were having breakfast and laughing out loud.
  • The moment I enter, their attention turns to me and I can see an evil smirk dangling at the base of her lips.
  • “Hey” Natalia’s voice filter into my ear, “come, join us for breakfast”
  • “Can we talk?” I turn to Nick, “I have something to discuss with you”
  • “Have you signed the papers?” His voice is stoic.
  • “Nick, you…”
  • He glances at me for a moment and returns his focus on Natalia.
  • “I have a meeting. Don’t waste my time.”
  • Pushing his chair back, he picks up his jacket and makes his way out of the room without sparing me another glance.
  • “You seem not to understand the writing on the wall, Mish.” Natalia tries to talk but I roll my eyes at him and follow Nicholas out of the house.
  • He is just about to open the car door when I walk up to him and place myself before him.
  • “For fuck’s sake, Michelle. Don’t make me throw you out of this house,” he half yells, his hands balling into fists.
  • “Do you really think this is right? We’re mated, Nicholas. We’ve been married for three years, and you think it’s okay to just throw all of that away?”
  • “It was a marriage of convenience,” he says, his words cutting like a knife. “You’ll get everything you need, so just sign the damn papers.”
  • I blink, my heart breaking a little more with each passing second. “So, you never loved me?”
  • He lets out a scoff, his eyes cold. “No Alpha genuinely loves his mate, Mish. It’s all about duty, fulfilling expectations. And let’s not forget, Natalie and I had a thing before you ever came into the picture.”
  • With that, he opens the car door and in no time, his car zooms off leaving me standing looking like a fool.
  • The tears I was struggling to contain comes bursting out of me, I cannot hold it. His words cut through my soul and I can feel my chest tighten again. Three years all gone to the wind.
  • “I didn’t know you to be a desperate one, Mish” Natalie’s voice filters into my ear again and I turn my head to her direction.
  • “You sure have some nerve to show up at my house, Natalia. You know what I am capable of doing and yet you dare to come into my home. Aren’t you scared?”
  • Natalia scoffs while crossing her hands over the other,
  • “I totally agree with you, Michelle” she retorts, “I might not have the powers you possess but I have the man you want, my dear sis. Three years ago, you made me leave him for you and now, I am here to take him back. Why do you have a problem with that?”
  • “This won’t be the last of it.”
  • “Let’s wait and see,” Natalia says with an evil smirk. “But if I were you, I’d pack up and leave before he gets back. I have some good news to share with him, and I don’t want you ruining the moment.”
  • She places her hands on her stomach, her smile widening.
  • “You know, I have a little life growing inside me.”
  • Her words make my stomach drop. I freeze, trying to process what she just said, hoping I misunderstood.
  • “I’m pregnant, Mish,” she finally says, her tone smug and triumphant, dropping the bombshell without an ounce of hesitation.
  • The room spins as the meaning of her words sinks in, but she’s not done. She leans closer, her voice dripping with mock sympathy.
  • “So now you understand, don’t you? I didn’t just come here out of nowhere. I’ve been fucking your husband, Mish.”
  • After she is done, Natalia turns around and walks away leaving me to myself.
  • “No!” I scream at the top of my lungs. My knees buckle, and I collapse onto the cold floor, tears streaming down my face like a torrent.
  • Nicholas has made a mockery of our relationship, of the bond I thought was unbreakable. I can feel the fragile threads of our connection snapping, breaking into pieces so small they’ll never be whole again. This can’t be happening. It shouldn’t be happening.
  • “Luna!” one of the househelps rushes over, her voice filled with concern. “Are you alright?”
  • “Stop crying” my wolf advises me, “you are not in the position to cry. You’re carrying the heir to the pack growing inside of you. Stay strong.”
  • But her words don’t reach me. I bury my head on my thighs as hard bitter tears continue to pour out of my eyes that I didn’t hear my phone ring.
  • It rings again, and this time I glance at it. When I see the caller ID, my heart skips a beat.
  • The doctor.
  • Sniffing hard, I swipe the screen and press the phone to my ear. “Hello?” I manage, forcing my voice to stay even. I don’t want him to know I’ve been crying.
  • “Luna Michelle,” he begins, his tone calm but serious, “I’ve reviewed your latest reports, and something unusual has come up.”
  • My heart skips a beat, “Is my baby okay?”
  • here’s a brief pause before he answers. “Your baby… Your babies are in a delicate situation,” he says. “You have a tumor growing directly opposite your womb.”
  • My forehead creases into a frown,
  • “What do you mean, doctor?”
  • “The tumor is positioned dangerously close to your womb,” he explains, his voice measured but grave.
  • “Your triplets are at risk of being affected. I strongly recommend you consider an abortion immediately to protect your health.”
