Chapter 1 Return to the First Life
- Rivington.
- At the Currans' hillside villa complex.
- Inside the main residence, the living room.
- "Mom, this engagement was meant for Elaine from the start. Now that she's back, it rightfully belongs to her."
- "Mom, Rebecca is correct. Elaine and Terry's marriage was planned since they were kids."
- "Mom, don't worry. Alora is our daughter too, and we won't treat her unfairly."
- "Mom, Rebecca has a point. There are plenty of young men and women in Rivington. Alora can pick anyone she likes!"
- Rebecca Elrod and Leon Curran sincerely tried to convince her.
- "Hmph!"
- Old Mrs. Curran, Maya Sharpe, scowled, "Do you really think those people can match Terry Wilson?
- "You're being unfair!
- "Even though Alora isn't your biological daughter, you've taken care of her for 20 years. Don't you care about her at all?
- "Everyone in Rivington knows that she's Terry's fiancée. Now that you've found your real daughter, are you just going to abandon Alora?
- "How will she be able to face anyone in the future if you do this?
- "Do you want her to go on living like this?"
- "Grandma ... " Alora Curran, the adopted daughter of the Currans, displayed a hurt expression at just the right time.
- But she softly shook her head, trying to gently tell Maya to let it go.
- Maya felt even more heartbroken. "In any case, I refuse to let Elaine marry Terry!"
- So noisy!
- Seated on the real leather sofa, the young girl, with her eyes half-closed, lightly furrowed her delicate brows.
- She had a naturally lovely oval-shaped face.
- Her long, black hair flowed down to her waist, glossy and radiant.
- Her skin was as fair as porcelain, smooth and without a single flaw.
- She has delicate features and eyes as if painted.
- Yet, there was a trace of irritation on her face.
- Elaine Curran gradually opened her eyes.
- A pair of almond-shaped eyes, mesmerizing and enchanting, utterly captivating.
- Have I entered a different world?
- Did that cursed system trick me this time, sending me here without any background information?
- "Mom, please think about Elaine too. She is Terry's rightful fiancée. If you let Alora marry him, who will Elaine end up with?"
- Hold on!
- That's Mom's voice!
- Elaine turned her head a bit and quickly noticed the lovely woman beside her, gripping her hand firmly.
- The woman's face has a beautiful oval face as her own.
- Even though she was close to 50, she had kept herself in great shape, her skin smooth and youthful, appearing as though she was only in her early 30s.
- She exuded grace and dignity.
- The almond-shaped eyes, mirroring her own, now held a touch of bitterness.
- It was indeed her mother!
- Elaine felt a bit startled.
- Her gaze drifted around.
- She recognized the familiar living room.
- And ...
- Her father, wearing a serious expression, sat on her left.
- Maya Sharpe and Alora Curran, the adopted daughter of the Currans, were seated directly across from her.
- I'm returned?!
- Elaine felt a surge of excitement.
- She tried to remain composed, reaching out mentally to the quick transmigration system, but received no reply.
- She truly came back!
- She's returned to her first life!
- The first life that had been on her mind all along!
- Elaine was so thrilled that her body trembled a little.
- In her previous life, after she passed away, she entered a quick transmigration world.
- The system promised that if she finished all the missions, she would be able to return to her first life.
- And, she would bring with her all the skills she had acquired in the quick transmigration world.
- But she recalled that she hadn't finished all the missions.
- How did I return early?
- "Who would marry Elaine? There are many other young heirs in Rivington that are more than sufficient for her," Maya's voice dripped with disdain.
- Elaine's mother, Rebecca Elrod, looked displeased. "Mom, what are you saying?"
- "Where did I go wrong?" Maya replied with a huff.
- "She's spent her whole life in a mountain village, never finished high school, and has been scraping by in the entertainment industry with just her looks, constantly on the trendy search for all the bad rumors. Do you really think the Wilsons would want to marry her?
- "Do you think the Wilsons are just a trash heap?"
- Maya's expression was one of distaste.
- "Mom, Elaine has been through so much. Isn't it our duty to help her? How can you look down on her? Shouldn't we make it up to her?" Elaine's father, Leon Curran, also frowned.
- "Stop arguing."
- A sharp, cold female voice cut through the disagreement.
- Everyone turned to look at the girl.
- She appeared distant and unbothered, as if the entire discussion was irrelevant to her.
- "What? Am I mistaken? Explain why you are better than Alora. You ... "
- "I want to call off the marriage!"
- Elaine cut in, interrupting Maya.
