Chapter 9 Are You Insane or Am I?
- "Yes," Hannah answered with a nod.
- "Huh?"
- Jay, clearly angered, scoffed, "She's more suitable than me? Are you out of your mind or just not seeing clearly? Are you making a joke out of your sister's life?"
- Hearing this, Hannah trembled visibly and glanced over at Elaine.
- Elaine gave a small, confirming nod in response.
- Unknowingly, Hannah once more felt a strong sense of persuasion.
- She replied, "My sister's life matters, and so do her legs. Without them, she can't go on."
- Jay was even more baffled, as if he were hearing a fairy tale. "Are you suggesting that a high school student can heal your sister's legs?"
- "Yes," Hannah affirmed with a nod.
- "Are you insane or am I? Is your mind clouded? Should I crack open your head to see what's the problem?"
- Jay felt a strong urge to grab Hannah by the collar. He shook her vigorously, trying to bring her to her senses.
- "You're risking your sister's life on a kid? Where are your parents? Get them here now!"
- With a life on the line, Jay refused to let a child make such reckless decisions.
- Hannah, the injured person's sister, had just turned 18.
- The situation was critical, and she only needed to sign the surgery risk acknowledgment as a relative.
- Yet, she created such a commotion.
- Does she hold a grudge against her sister?
- "My dad is on a business trip, and I don't have a mom," Hannah explained.
- Jay was so infuriated that he felt like hitting something.
- "So you're just going to let your sister die?"
- "I want my sister to be okay more than anyone!"
- Hannah's eyes welled up with tears.
- Seeing that the argument was dragging on, Elaine decided not to worry about the details any longer.
- Time was running out.
- The longer they delayed, the greater the risk for Anna.
- Elaine seized the moment to move toward the operating room door.
- Yosef opened it with a silent understanding.
- Elaine then directed, "No one else is allowed inside."
- Yosef gave an "OK" sign and said, "Don't worry."
- The door to the operating room closed firmly behind them.
- Jay watched this unfold, his anger reaching a boiling point.
- "You're all insane! You're all out of your minds!"
- Hannah remained silent.
- She bit her lip tightly, on the verge of tears.
- Had I made a mistake?
- All I wanted was for Anna to be healthy.
- Jay, grinding his teeth in frustration, ordered his assistant, "Get her to sign the hospital waiver! That way, we won't be held responsible if something happens to her! And make sure we don't have such troublemakers in the hospital again. Let them sort things out on their own outside!"
- With that, he stormed back to his office.
- As Jay departed, the rest of the crowd followed suit.
- Everyone cast Hannah looks of confusion, disdain, or pity.
- The doctor had lost interest, considering the patient's fate sealed.
- The assistant quickly brought over the documents for Hannah to sign.
- With trembling hands, Hannah signed them.
- The assistant shot her a contemptuous glance and said, "You really don't know what's good for you!"
- Hannah pressed her lips together firmly, remaining silent.
- She leaned against the wall, her gaze fixed on the closed operating room door, her back rigid.
- It was as if she were holding her breath.
- Yosef approached and gently patted her shoulder.
- "Don't worry, everything will be alright," he reassured her.
- He was unsure of the source of his assurance.
- Five hours later.
- The operating room door swung open.
- Elaine emerged from within.
- Having been wholly engrossed in the surgery for five hours, she had carried out the entire procedure alone.
- She must have been utterly drained.
- Yet, she was only slightly weary.
- In the quick transmigration world, she had undergone physical training, which had carried over into this life.
- Her hair, hidden beneath a hat, was already drenched in perspiration.
- "You must be tired."
- Yosef promptly offered her the water he had prepared before.
