- After ending the call, Dr. Pamela told me I could see Alexis if I wanted to, as they were still waiting for her dilation to progress before she could start pushing. I made my way to the labor and delivery ward. When I entered the room, I found Alexis lying on the bed, looking terrified.
- Her eyes were wide, and she kept mumbling to herself, clearly in a state of panic. When she saw me, she grabbed my hand. “Zina, I don’t think I can do this,” she trembled. “What if I don’t survive? What if something happens to the baby?”
- I squeezed her hand firmly, trying to project the calmness I didn’t feel. “Don’t say that. You’re going to be fine. Both you and the baby. You have to think positively.”
