Chapter 13 - Not Giving Any Face
- Lin Yayu’s face was slightly red from all the alcohol that she had imbibed. She was pulled out of the bar and into an empty alleyway.
- The pudgy hoodlum had no intentions of going easy on Lin Yayu because she was a woman. He gave her a mighty slap in the face in order to vent his anger. He was blaming her for all his pain from getting beaten up over the past few days. He had even remained hospitalized for several days.
- Lin Yayu instantly woke up from her drunken state due to the pain. She reflexively backed away and pointed at the two hoodlums before her with a panicky expression. “I recommend that you two let me go immediately. I’m not someone you can afford to antagonize.”
- *Slap!*
- This got her nothing but another slap in the face. The pudgy hoodlum then kicked Lin Yayu in the stomach and spat on her. He raised his arm again, but the skinny hoodlum grabbed onto his arm. “Bro, we’re here to complete a task this time. Let’s not cause any more trouble than that.”
- The pudgy hoodlum unwillingly put down his arm. He then ripped off Lin Yayu’s dress and took many indecent photos of her using his cell phone.
- Lin Yayu trembled as countless tears slowly flowed down her face. “I spent money to hire you to do something for me. You agreed at the time, so why go back on your word?”
- The pudgy hoodlum snorted angrily. He felt even more furious when he recalled what he had been put through. “At the time, you told us that the woman you were targeting would be quite easy to deal with. However, that wasn’t the case at all. She beat me until I was black and blue all over.”
- Lin Yayu’s eyes kept widening in surprise. She had known Su Wan for so many years already, yet she had never known that Su Wan was skilled in martial arts.
- “Sell these photos to me. I’ll pay you double what the person hiring you is paying.” She showed two fingers to the hoodlums. Although she still had her underwear on in these photos, it would still be scandalous for such indecent photos of her to be spread around.
- There was already some distance between her and Feng Shihan to begin with. At such a critical moment, she couldn’t afford to get involved in a scandal.
- The pudgy hoodlum wasn’t moved by her offer at all. He viciously glared at Lin Yayu again, then exited the alleyway and texted the photos to Lan Muwei.
- At the moment, Lan Muwei was working on her designs for the upcoming Feng Corporation designer recruitment fair which was beginning in three days. Although the job opening was only for a design assistant, she would be able to start working from the bottom.
- Work was always a battle. She wouldn’t underestimate any opponent.
- Her cell phone beeped with a new text message notification. She opened up the text message to see many indecent photos of Lin Yayu. A light flashed in her eyes as she turned off her cell phone and continued working on her design.
- Three days later, the recruitment fair began as expected.
- Countless people had come here for the job opportunity. Feng Shihan was the most noticeable person of all present at the recruitment fair. Anyone would be able to remember him with just one look.
- Lan Muwei intentionally chose a dark grey suit and hat so that she could have a low profile. Near the very end of the waiting lines, she spotted Lin Yayu.
- Lan Muwei adjusted her glasses which didn’t have a prescription as she hid herself in the crowd.
- The first test would instantly eliminate half of the applicants. The interviewers here would divide the submitted designs among themselves and pass only half of the designs.
- Lan Muwei successfully passed and reached the second test, which was a paper test on professional design knowledge. She managed to finish the test in just half an hour due to her knowledge from her previous life. However, so that she wouldn’t expose herself, she quietly waited until someone else handed in the test before she handed in her own test.
- By the third test, only a dozen or so people remained. Most people had failed the second test. Excellent professional knowledge would be required of an outstanding designer. This was something basic.
- Lan Muwei did her best to hide in a corner. Yet, Feng Shihan instantly recognized Su Wan under her hat. He couldn’t help but imperceptibly smile.
- Lin Yayu had been silently observing Feng Shihan, so she also noticed his faint smile. She also looked in Lan Muwei’s direction. However, she didn’t recognize Su Wan. This was because Lan Muwei was wearing quite ordinary clothing. Lin Yayu thus felt quite reassured.
- Lan Muwei cheered herself on in her own heart. This third and last test was the most important.
- “Mr. Feng, you’re recruiting a design assistant? I didn’t even know about this beforehand. You wouldn’t mind if I joined in, right?” A familiar voice suddenly spoke up.
- Lan Muwei’s fingers trembled as she bit her lower lip so much that blood started flowing into her mouth. Yet, she still didn’t stop biting her lip.
- Fu Chen!
- What was he doing here at such a time?
- She would never forget everything that Fu Chen had done to her. Fu Chen kept getting closer. Lan Muwei lowered her head as hatred appeared in her eyes.
- Feng Shihan’s mouth arced upwards as he made a hand gesture indicating that Fu Chen should leave while speaking in a casual tone. “Mr. Fu, since you already realize that you came here without an invitation, I won’t be getting up to see you off.”
- Lan Muwei now had a delighted expression in her eyes. No wonder Fu Chen always had such a dark expression when he returned home. Feng Shihan really did have the ability to infuriate others.
- Fu Chen’s smile stiffened as he sat down and crossed his legs out of habit. He shook his leg slightly as he said, “Mr. Fu, I’m only here to observe. You’ll give me face on this, won’t you?”
- Feng Shihan unhesitatingly shook his head as he lightly tapped the table. “Mr. Fu, you’re finally being smart for once. I won’t give you any face on this.”
- Lan Muwei finally felt for once in her life that the venom-tongued Feng Shihan was cute right now. If it wasn’t for the poor timing, she would have definitely gone up and given him a big kiss in order to express her thanks.
- Fu Chen had a steely expression as he opened his mouth, but he didn’t say anything else. He still remained where he sat without moving.
- “We can now begin. All of you can come in now,” the interviewer sitting at the farthest side spoke up softly.
- All the interviewees did their very best.
- Finally, it was Lan Muwei’s turn. Her palms became slightly sweaty. This wasn’t because she was nervous, but rather because Fu Chen was so close by.
- Feng Shihan hadn’t spoken a single word to the other interviewees, but he asked a question at this time. “Why did you want to study design?”
- Lan Muwei paused in surprise for a moment as she recalled back to when she had first started learning design. A confident smile appeared on her face as a gust of wind blew her hat off her head.
- Fu Chen glanced at Lan Muwei and felt his heart skip a beat. That expression in her eyes was just like how his deceased wife Lan Muwei would look like!
- “I didn’t study design for the sake of any goal or dream. I only studied design because it allowed me to obtain endless joy and because it relaxes me.”
- These were some of the most common reasons that the interviewers had heard already. Yet, all the people present were moved by Lan Muwei’s sincere tone and resolute expression.
- The moment that her hat was blown away, Lin Yayu kept staring at her. After Lan Muwei’s answer, Lin Yayu was the first to stand up and point at her: “I don’t agree to letting her pass. Her reason is far too general.”
- It seemed that Lin Yayu had recognized her. Otherwise, Lin Yayu wouldn’t have shown so much of a reaction.
- Lan Muwei took off her fake glasses and continued explaining. “Everything I said was the pure truth.” She respectfully lowered her head and waited for the other interviewers’ thoughts.
- Fu Chen’s dark eyes tightly locked onto Lan Muwei, as if he could see through her soul by doing so.
- “I agree,” an interviewer spoke up first.
- The other interviewers also nodded their heads in agreement.
- “President Feng, your vote counts the most. Please make the decision, since Wanwan doesn’t…”
- Lin Yayu didn’t even get to finish her words when Feng Shihan’s icy voice interrupted her. “I also agree.”
- Lan Muwei’s eyes didn’t show any delight from this. It was as if all of this should have been hers to begin with.
- “Miss, have we met before?” Fu Chen walked up to Lan Muwei while furrowing his eyebrows slightly and carefully looking at her. He was proud of his photographic memory.
- A look of hatred appeared in Lan Muwei’s eyes as she clenched her hands and pursed her lips.
