Chapter 2 Missing Bride

  • * * * * * Tony’s POV * * * * *
  • I sat in my luxurious sitting room with a lot of thoughts running through my mind; I was bothered about the recent developments that had spoiled my plans.
  • How am I going to take care of this mess? I have no idea why Tina had decided to do this. I had tried calling her a few times but her number was out of reach. I had even sent my guards to her house but her butler reported that there had been no recent sign of her, she was not at the villa.
  • I had come to the conclusion that she had run away, but I have to fix this, the wedding must be held or my reputation would be at stake. Forget my reputation, what of my parents? They had been very excited when they learnt that their son was finally getting married, and they couldn’t wait for the day to arrive.
  • I was still thinking about my parents, when my phone rang and it was mom calling.
  • “Speak of the villain,” I muttered and bit my lower lips. What am I going to tell her now? That my bride had run away? Definitely not, the old woman's blood pressure might shoot up.
  • All the excitement for nothing? She had already spread invitation letters to her friends in different parts of the world, even without knowing the bride, her only child`s wedding meant the world to her.
  • I finally accepted the incoming call and my mother`s voice came in, she was in her late 60s.
  • “Tony, are you alright? Why did it take so long for you to pick my call?” she fired, with her old, yet firm voice.
  • I sighed, “Good morning mum,” I greeted sluggishly.
  • “It's afternoon over here son, you haven’t been paying attention to the time zones, have you?” she retorted.
  • I sighed again, sometimes it was difficult for me to believe that this woman gave birth to me, she was fire.
  • “But mom, it's morning here so it’s not wrong if I greet you with the U.S time,” I argued.
  • “Forget about that, where is my daughter in law, I want to speak with her,” the old lady requested.
  • “Mum, she is not yet your daughter-in-law. That would be in a week's time, and she is not here at the moment so you can’t speak with her.” I replied and imagined her frown, because that’s exactly what she would do.
  • “What are you not telling me son? You won’t let me see the picture of my future daughter in law, you won’t even let me have her number and whenever I call, you say she is not close to you, what is going on?” she grumbled.
  • “Mom, you know Tina is a very busy lady, she is the only child of a famous businessman so she has a lot of responsibilities on her shoulder,” I replied.
  • “This was the exact reply you gave me last time son, I am sure that there is something fishy going on there, but no worries, your dad had gone to the embassy to sought out our international passport issues, everything would be resolved in three days and we would return to Los Angeles two days before your wedding, then I would see her for myself.”
  • The information made my heart skip, they were coming back two days earlier, which means I need to come up with a plan immediately. I cannot afford sabotaging the wedding, my parents would be hurt and I do not want that.
  • “It’s alright mom, don’t forget to tell me if you two have any problems booking a flight home, I would arrange a private aircraft immediately,” I said.
  • “Forget about us son, your dad can handle everything, he gave birth to you after all so don’t act like you are the boss, just concentrate on your wedding, I want you to make sure its splendid, you know what that occasion means to all of us, you are the only son of the Queen family, our only heir and…”
  • “I know all of that, mom,” I said, interrupting her.
  • “Hey, you should not cut your mom short like that, anyway concentrate on your love life and make sure nothing goes wrong. I am very happy to know that my son is finally in love, my shy little boy….”
  • I scratched my head and dropped the phone on my couch while the old woman kept blabbering. I know my mother too well; she could go on for hours unless I found an excuse to stop her.
  • Speaking about my love life, I chuckled at the thought of that. I have no experience of love or what it means, my marriage with Tina was not based on love, rather it was for business purposes, we had no real feelings for each other, just mutual respect but we wanted to get married because we were both from the elite class and it’s what’s best for business.
  • We believe that by getting married, it will help our individual companies grow stronger than our rivals, merging the Queen Enterprises and Peller ventures would create a new giant in the business world, one which would be above every other.
  • “Are you still there?” my mother`s voice jolted me out of my thoughts.
  • “Yes mom, but I have to go now, goodbye and take care of yourself,” I replied.
  • “Alright, I know you are busy with arrangements, make sure everything is in order and greet Tina for me, I love you both!”
  • “I love you too mom,” I concluded and hung up, and then I drew a deep breath in relief. That old woman was a pain in the ass.
  • To be continued!
