Chapter 4 Register Divorce

  • Since their marriage, Flint either stayed away for 10 days at a time or came home in the middle of the night. It was the first time he had come back this early.
  • Is this really how people in power think? So unpredictable.
  • Bethany found it odd but didn't ask any questions. She quickly instructed the workers to stop what they were doing.
  • With a grim expression, Flint headed upstairs and pushed open the door to the master bedroom. The room was empty, devoid of any trace of life.
  • He rarely came home at this hour, but no matter how late it was, Lucille would always be waiting for him. Even if she dozed off, she'd wake the moment he walked in, greeting him with joy and fussing over him.
  • But tonight, as he opened the door, the emptiness hit him in a way he wasn't used to. A sudden wave of restlessness rose within him. He pulled off his tie and tossed it aside, his eyes scanning the room.
  • Nothing significant had changed, yet something felt different.
  • Half the books on the shelves were gone.
  • He opened the closet. It was still packed with clothes, but not a single piece belonged to Lucille.
  • Flint's brows furrowed. He refused to believe Lucille had truly agreed to the divorce and moved out.
  • Is she trying to play hard to get? Does she think that'll work for me?
  • The sneer on Flint's face deepened.
  • Despite his conviction that Lucille wouldn't just give up so easily, that nagging sense of unease and irritation wouldn't leave him.

  • After leaving the home she'd shared with Flint for a year, Lucille didn't go anywhere else but straight to her downtown apartment.
  • Though she rarely stayed there, it was cleaned daily by a professional service.
  • After setting down her luggage, she pulled out her phone and made a call.
  • The line quickly connected, and a hoarse voice, clearly just waking up, answered, "Lucille, I was just dreaming about you, and now you're calling. We must be in sync."
  • Lucille ignored the man's teasing and went straight to the point. "There's something I need you to investigate. Once you have all the evidence, send it over to me."
  • She laid out the details of what she needed him to look into.
  • After hanging up, a cold glint flashed in her eyes.
  • *
  • The next morning, Lucille woke up early, got ready, and gathered the necessary documents before driving to the Department of State.
  • By the time she arrived, the staff were already at work, with people trickling in to register marriages and divorces.
  • Lucille stood at the entrance, patiently waiting for an hour, but Flint never showed up.
  • Gradually, her patience wore thin.
  • She called Flint, but there was no answer. She tried calling Sebastian next, but his phone was also off.
  • Lucille checked the time. There was only an hour left before the office closed.
  • Frustrated, she decided to head straight to Ashworth Corporation.
  • After parking her car, she walked into the building and was immediately met with a curvaceous woman with a striking figure.
  • The woman had chestnut-colored waves draped over one shoulder, surgically enhanced eyes with sharp, parallel double eyelids, plump lips, and a pointed chin—a typical social media influencer's look.
  • Her business attire was tailored to highlight every bit of her seductive charm.
  • Lucille recognized her. She'd seen this woman a few times before when she'd brought lunch to Flint at the office.
