Chapter 9 "Together In The City"

  • Harriet's POV
  • It felt like a surreal dream when Lucas carried me and effortlessly jumped through the rails. We survived unscathed, leaving me questioning just how much strength he has.
  • He didn't even shift in his wolf form when he did it.
  • As Lucas reached the ground, I looked at him with astonishment.
  • 'Is he really just a rogue?'
  • "Hold on tight and stay quiet. Tonight, we'll make our escape from this prison," he whispered.
  • "That is," I wanted to argue, but I couldn't find the words to refute him.
  • After all, when Lucas described this place as a prison, I couldn't help but agree. It really did feel like a jail to me.
  • As I remained silent, Lucas took action.
  • Silently, he skillfully maneuvered past the guards surrounding the mansion. Before long, we arrived at the gate, where a car was waiting for us.
  • "Get in. Be careful," Lucas gently guided me into the backseat of the car. As I got in, I noticed a man sitting in the driver's seat.
  • "Good evening, Miss," he greeted.
  • I looked at him and noticed his cat-like eyes.
  • "My name is Calix," he introduced himself, "and I am Mr. Lucas's secretary. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Harriet."
  • "Why does he seem so comfortable around me?" I wondered. Nevertheless, I introduced myself, "I'm Harriet. Nice to..."
  • But before I could finish my sentence, Lucas abruptly accused me, "Quit flirting with her, Calix," he scolded.
  • "Flirting?" he exclaimed, pointing at himself. "Oh, come on. How could I possibly be doing that?"
  • Lucas urged, "Just step on the gas pedal. We don't have time to waste." He swiftly took off his suit and draped it over my shoulders.
  • It suddenly dawned on me that he gave me his suit because I was only wearing a thin dress. Grateful for Lucas's kind gesture, I held onto the suit tightly, feeling my cheeks turn red with embarrassment.
  • "Noted! Where would you like to go, Sir? Where should I take you?" Calix asked.
  • "Anywhere. Just somewhere far away from this place," Lucas replied as the car started moving.
  • I couldn't help but steal a glance back at the house we were leaving behind. My heart raced with a mix of nervousness and excitement, like a mischievous child sneaking around, keeping secrets from their unsuspecting parents.
  • I always feel like this whenever I leave home. Even if it is for a moment, I feel like I can breathe.
  • Soon enough, we found ourselves in the vibrant City, exploring its streets together.
  • "I really wanted to explore this city," Lucas said to me. "They said it's absolutely stunning." He turned towards me and added, "And since you're the most gorgeous woman I've ever laid eyes on, I couldn't resist bringing you along."
  • Lies.
  • Deep down, I knew that Lucas didn't bring me here out of genuine desire but rather to offer me a sense of comfort that I never asked for in the first place. However, I couldn't bring myself to despise him for prying into my personal life.
  • "What do you think? Isn't it beautiful?" he asked, breaking my train of thought.
  • In response to his question, I took a moment to soak in the surroundings. The cityscape sprawled out before me, a vibrant tapestry of colors and bustling energy.
  • The last time I went into the City was when I decided to drop by a bar and straight up asked Lucas if she wanted to lose her virginity to me. I didn't really have a chance to explore the scene.
  • "Taking a look around, it was, like, absolutely stunning," I commented.
  • "You sound like you don't go out much. Did you sneak out of the house when we met at the bar?" he asked.
  • I gave him a dirty look. "Can you just be quiet and stop bringing up that night?"
  • "Ha!" Lucas laughed. "Alright, alright. Let's just enjoy tonight together. But I have to get you back before sunrise."
  • So, we wandered around, with me following the mouthwatering smell of food until we stumbled upon a street food vendor. I couldn't resist the temptation.
  • Everything looks so good. I really want to try it.
  • I couldn't tear my eyes away from the food, but I hesitated because of my stepmother, Amelia. She was always monitoring my diet and didn't want me to overeat.
  • However, out of nowhere, Lucas placed something right in front of me. It was a huge barbecue!
  • "Here you go," Lucas said. "Dig in. Your eyes were practically begging for it."
  • "But," I stuttered.
  • "No buts," Lucas snapped back. "Didn't we agree that you have to accept whatever I offer?"
  • Well, I hadn't eaten anything all day. So, maybe it's okay to indulge in the barbecue. With that thought, I took a bite. And boy, was it amazing!
  • "Mmm! This is incredibly delicious! The best dinner I've ever had!" I exclaimed silently.
  • Once I tasted it, I couldn't resist devouring more.
  • Lucas pointed out, "Your family isn't poor at all. But you devoured that food like you hadn't eaten in months. Your Father must've been really serious when he asked me to invest in his company."
  • I just shrugged and finished my barbecue. After I was done, I felt a bit embarrassed.
  • Man, I ate like I was starving!
  • "Don't look so guilty," Lucas remarked, probably seeing my expression.
  • "But there's a party tomorrow," I mentioned, remembering the upcoming event. "My stepmom is going to be so mad."
  • "As if one barbecue is going to make a difference in your appearance," Lucas said as he casually wiped the sauce off my mouth with his thumb.
  • I was taken aback as he sensually licked his finger, leaving me unsure how to react to his charm.
  • "You'll be fine. Trust me," he whispered.
  • To not worry and to trust somehow. Hearing that made me overwhelmed. If this was all just a dream, I never wanted to wake up. But I knew she had to face reality.
  • "Why are you putting me through this?" I asked. "Is it because you feel sorry for me? Did you make some kind of agreement with my dad? Or are you just looking for someone else to have s*x with?"
  • He laughed, surprising me with his response. "Haha... I didn't think you would ask that," he said, a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. "Already thinking about another round? Wow, if I had known, I would've reserved a hotel room."
  • I scowled.
  • I was what? Looking forward to it.
  • I was simply inquiring about his intentions. So why did I feel a surge of excitement upon hearing his response?
  • Could it be that somewhere deep inside, I was also eager to revisit that unforgettable night?
